Thanks.

Happened at about 6:30am.

Just a few grazes and a concussion. Luckily no more.

Got to be alert these days or cycle in a group, this happened so fast.

W....T....F???

Kicked off the bike, bike stolen and left there not worried about your injuries!

I think we need to get creative with a shotgun shell, big ball bearing, remote or cellphone detonator in the seat type thing.

This is really getting out of hand. Damn!

Glad you are okay.

This is how many bike robberies go... the victim was lucky that they got off without getting stabbed/more seriously injured.

Bike thieves suck and I hope you manage to get your bike back, as someone who regularly cycles the stretch of road where you got robbed, we need to find a way to put an end to this ***.

Infrared laser, above 5mW and between 800 nm and 1300 nm....it should do the trick nicely and instantly...better yet, it will be permanent.

Built into a very very small flashlight housing with a reflector and lense.

Looks like a good concept, but it will be a PITA to draw and aim the tiny beam at said criminal when they come at you with a knife. This is sadly the same reason that almost any self defense weapon is too impractical to be of any use when cycling.

No need to point anything....no need to aim...there is no tiny beam...

Let's just say the perp will be "lost" in under 0.01 seconds and will need assistance to get home...

Went straight to the Steenberg Police station to get a CAS number after it happened. Unfortunately I think the bike is in the wind now.

Not the place I would expect this to happen. The guys, are violent and know what they were doing.

Our safe routes to cycle alone are getting shorter every year. Not sure what the solution is.😒

Sorry to hear bud.

Not to sound like a tjop but it's definitely a place to be weary of. There were a good number of bike jackings in the same place about 2years back until they stationed a patrol vehicle directly opposite where it was happening. Haven't seen the vehicle there of late so seems they're back at it. 1 lady who was mugged there had a tracker and it was tracked to the Westlake Informal settlement which is an easy escape from the point of incident this morning.

Maybe I have misunderstood... but then again, I am no expert on lasers, but surely you would have to point that laser/flashlight contraption at someone for the desired effect to occur?

Please correct me if I am wrong

Even though it is a laser, this specific laser does not have a single laser beam as you would get from a normal store bought handheld pointing laser. Think more in the line of wide angle LED torch...where the "light" bounces off of anything and everything and still have the same energy as from the original point of origin...

That specific laser will have the same effect even bouncing off of other surfaces (glass, metal, stone, rocks, walls, anything basically) over 40 meters away. The reflector inside the housing, coupled with the lense creates a very wide area of cover.

Being infrared, you will not see any light or laser...and to be honest, after 0.01 seconds, you will never see anything ever again.

It is a very stupid idea and nobody should do this. I am in no way, shape or form suggesting that people should build this. It is beyond dangerous and should not be attempted by anyone, ever, for any reason whatsoever....ever!

You do need to use special glasses that will allow you to see the infrared light as well as protect your eyes. Coincidentally they look just like cycling glasses!
