Yes, fabric material is expensive but it doesnt attract the same import duties made up garments do, so why then is local is lekker isnt necessarily the more cost effective option?

 

 Much prefer buying locally produced clothing and local produce and wine and also prefer mom and pop shops.  I was partnered in a bespoke clothing design business (am no designer) also retailing renowned SA designers’ pieces for several years.  Even so, I find it astonishing that one of the local brands mentioned in this thread sells a basic single-colour trail tee shirt for R995.  

I’ve paid less for excellent quality and stylish formal shoes in Milan, which are as good as ever sixteen years later.  Some cycling gear prices...

Indola, based in Tamboerskloof also local. Not sure if products are manufactured locally, but I use their Girona Bibs and they are excellent. Used them the Ronde Van Riebeek 100 miler, which was 7 hours in the saddle.
