It’s not disputed that the road riding around the Cape Peninsula is spectacular. We teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to showcase some of the best of our backyard with the help of their V-Class Special Edition on a big day out. I have friends with one of these vehicles, if you grew up with a Kombi in the 80s then this is the cousin that went to Eton - they love it. Nice bike rack, plent of space in the back for two roadbikes if you want it inside too.

Don't get the special edition - they usually mean end of range - ie: the V Class will be replaced with a new version next year. Not that this is by any means not a great vehicle - just seems a bit silly to pay more, not less for an outgoing version of anything. Droolworthy none the less.

I've owned the 122CDI for a long time now. Unbelievable vehicle. Still gets about 8 litres/100km on long trips. That's not a typo, and yes it is the 3 litre engine. Which brings me to my biggest gripe with the new V-class: why the small engine? My other gripe: the Blue Efficiency is great while it lasts but very expensive to replace when it goes (and it will). One other comment: I use a tow hitch mounted rack, far more convenient than that crazy rack shown here. All in all though, in a perfect world, I would get another one of these but right now mine is just fine.
