Less time for pics on the way back .... leaning into the wind and fighting pending cramps ....

Just got this one pic -

Turn and on the way to Adderley ... this was nicer.  Traffic officials on duty, and people hanging out of windows of cars parked on the road, cheering us on.  Nobody seemed agitated at being held up.

This was my 5th one and it has always been an event where you feel you got value for your money. Thanks and keep it up @NicholasH The Trilogy seemed popular. Might try it next year. I started later with a friend in one of the gravel groups and we rode together up to the split at Fisantekraal. I also dont mind the last bit through D’urbanvale. The finish up Odendaal is part of what makes it unique, although it used to go to the top. The gees there is great. You’ll lose that finishing in Adderley.

Morne, being a very keen cyclist myself, the Trilogy was my brainchild and the feedback has been beyond positive and it will become a signature event. Do it next year 💪

If I had my way we WOULD finish at the top like the old days but we do have logistics to take care of (ad well as some very weary cyclists cyclists 🥵)

Thanks for supporting us and for your feedback 😁

Agree, though it was also made worse by the angle of the headwind, the most sheltered spot was on the right

Sadly, as head of ops, I can only control so much...wind is well, wind 🤣

THEN .... Adderley and the merger .....

It seemed worse on the bike, but actually just two complete crawling bottlenecks.  Easy enough to pass, even though you had to time your crossing of the line ....

Looking past these two you see about 30 odd riders crawling along and completely blocking the road .....

NOT complaining .... it was easy to time a gap and pass safely, even though you had to go over the line

Another spot of congestion .... just because the possibly newer riders were swerving so much.  Again, they were so slow it was quick and easy to pass.

Past Spes Bona the final straight had a "bit" of a head wind !!!  I later noticed I had gathered some guests ....

Just in case Finish Time decides to actually apply the rules I waited out my 3 hour 50 minute e-tax ....

VERY happy with my actual 3:29:32, including two water point stops.

I did the early bird entry for the 100km .... only saw the Trilogy later ....

I often considered transfering my entry to the Trilogy.

Every single Trilogy rider I spoke to was HAPPY with the route.

Yeah, it becomes difficult to manage 3 such diverse groups of riders. We had to hold the Trilogy guys back after 2 51km groups to ensure that the merge was not too bad....but we can only do so much....😁

Yeah, we expect double the numbers next year after this years trial run. It definitely was a hit. Although we will probably cannibalize entries from the 100km.... we want more gravel bikes. Will probably advertise it as a gravel race next year.

Last year our signage "Expect Delays" went up too late so we DID have a lot of agitated motorists that were NOT aware of the race. We learn each year how to make it better for everyone as best we can

This happens at ALL events where the distance merge for the final section.

Today the wind was a particular challenge for many riders.

It is part of the game.  I dont recall anybody complaining about this.  The minute lost to get a safe pass is hardly going to make a difference to those heading towards a 3:45 time.

I posted earlier in this thread, I had a meeting in Malmesbury on Wednesday.  Gave me the opportunity to do most of the 100km route by car.

The signs were already up at the long single lane bridge.

I was VERY happy to see those potholes on the Old Malmesbury road were fixed.  There were some seriously bad spots during my December and early January laps of the route.
