Hi all,

I am coming out from the UK next week to do W2W and I am looking to ride the Tygerberg area after the race ahead of the Epic next year.

There seems to be loads of areas to start rides, Meetendale etc so I am reaching out in the hope that a local could give some advise on a route that is about 4-5 hours in length with some decent climbing that takes in the greater area? Is it possible to link multiple trails together or are they isolated. Any GPX files, tips, tricks etc would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of farms where you can purchase a day permit for THAT FARM.

To get the miles you want, you need to use the corridors linking the farms.

Thus you need a full trail permit ... this is not available as a day permit.

Dates ?

Options:

1. The 2025 permit is available as of 1 December 2025.

2. November ?  Then you might have to buy the current half year permit ...nope ....

3. A holiday permit may be your answer .... https://tygerbergmtb.co.za/holiday-permits/#

Practical tip.  Most rides start around safe parking areas, and facilities ...

. Bloemendal

. Contermanskloof

. Hoogekraal

. Protea hotel

Yearly permits are discounted to something like 50% (circa R600) and are valid until end January 2025. You can purchase one at Bloemendal Trail park.

that will give you access to everything in and around durbanville (tygerberg trails), corridors/traverses included.

worth it if you plan on covering km over all the trails for more than a few days.

Not sure of your time frame or logistics available but you may want to look at training/riding on the Paarl Trails since 3 of the Epic days are out here. New trails have recently been opened on the network & its brutal but very rewarding when you wipe the blood from your eyes. Day permit is R100. I'm happy to show you around but will be slow as I mostly hibernate in winter

Thank you all for the valuable info, looks like the yearly pass might be the way to go if I want to string a few trails together. Planning a mini training camp for January so will likely come in use again.

We are planning on heading that way in January for a mini camp, hopefully it doesn’t scare us away for March  😂

January ... it can get reasonably hot.  Expect a few days in mid 30 degrees celcius.

PAARL trails .... that is a good few km closer to the hot place .... expect a few 40 degree days !!

Our temperatures typically peak mid February.

Not a holiday permit, im talking about the usual mid year price drop for memberships. I paid R660 for a full membership and R200 odd vir n youth one a few months ago when the discount kicked in. They don't ride in winter like i do, so i buy their boards mid year when it’s cheap.  It looks no different from my full membership I buy each year at the end of Jan.

OUCH !!!!

1 July has always been the 50% mark .... though they often only promote that a bit later ....

I have had a couple of buddies start riding during the year, then wait for the 1 July cut off to buy a board.  Only reason I know of this.
