Does this make you want to drink a beer??

Yes, but then again, everything makes me want to drink a beer...

I imagine that advertising the 94.7 on TV is more about getting the sponsors brand out there than about attracting more entries.  It is probably pretty reasonable advertising space (relatively speaking) and speaks directly to anyone with an interest in cycling ie the people that watch the Tour.  Your R230 goes to funding the year activities of the organising committee.

I don't think the route has anything to do with declining numbers.  It is about as straightforward as a race of that distance can be, and it is shorter than the other classics.  I am not sure that we will see much of a dcline in numbers at either the 94.7 or the Argus.  The Argus will continue to be oversubscribed even if entries went to R500, and 94.7 has a local market that none of the other cities can draw on.  The events that will probably feel the economic pinch are Amashova and the OFM Classic.  The Jock has been impacted largely by poor organisation or poor perception of the organisation.  The same applies to the Tour Durban and EP Herald.

  • 2 weeks later...

you get a flat, easy ride around Jburg, in 3 hours, your time is up, game over. I think the Jock, in my case, at 5hrs for 126km is worth a lot more.Big%20smile

Its become a hype, and thats why it so seriously marketed. And surely, the marketing works, since the 30000+ going. Anybody and everybody can and wants to do it because of it.

Will do the 94.7.  And not because of the marketing at all!  So they could've left the marketing and added the saving to the entry fee....

This race is over rated and not worth the money. Have done it 5 times and deciding if I should do it this year again. I may do the MTB rather

Hmm.... Seems like no one has anything good to say about this race and here I was thinking of coming out to do it...

Suppose I could just go to Durbs by the sea instead.

Swiss, if you have not done this race, you should do it. it's just one of those things. But if you've done it, it is just another VERY expensive and frustrating race.

I think most of the respondents are very spoilt.

I have also decided that I will rather trade in the odd R10 000-00 for the aeroplane tickets and do a trip of the northern Namibian westcoast and inland region, Torra Bay, Marienfluss and Epupa Falls and then hop over to Flamingo bay in Angola during the last two weeks of November.

I think this will be better value for money!!!!!!!!!!

I would rather if it was an option have them subtract their saving from my entry fee if you don't mind Sir CottagePieMan Wink

Thanks for correcting my slight slip of the tongue, jester of the court.
