Interesting interaction between these three.

 

Normal, healthy young individual with no pre-existing conditions ... and a clear cut injury.  Then a cookie cutter standard rehab program may well work.  IF the individual manages to do the exercises correctly.

 

IF it was this easy, then fisio's and bio's would not exist.

 

Few years back I was fortunate to get an orthopedic surgeon that was not knife-happy.  After the scan he talked me through the results.  Torn meniscus, but not bad enough for him to operate (his words).  He rather recommended I see a bio.

 

So many "injuries" are referred pains, and the sore point is not the cause.  Fisio's can be excellent in tracing these back to the origin.  Massage, needles, acoustic-treatment, etc are a few of the tools in their kit to treat the pain and help you regain mobility.  My personal experience have been that they only give basic stretch type exercises to continue the healing process.  (pretty sure they can and do give more exercises as the case may require)

 

The last few years I have gained a new found respect for bio's.  Not for pain treatment, but to look at the individual and then guide you through tailored exercises.  These exercises look past recovery, towards strengthening muscle groups for long term better quality of life.

 

 

 

All said, if you are an old gym rat and know the basic exercises, then you might need less time with either of these.  If you are not familiar with gym exercises and the correct posture .... downloading "standard" exercises can be dangerous.

 

 

As with all things medical, no one answer that works for everybody.

Back in 1990 I manage a clean break of the tibia in my right leg. Ortho operates and fixes the broken bone. It takes a couple of months of recovery, but being in my mid-teens I bounce back well enough.

Then in 2021 I manage to break that same leg again. Broken tibia on both sides, and according to the specialist, the fibula broke again. I ask him, what do you mean "again", to which he replies that it has been previously broken and left to mend on its own. Seems like the ortho in my teens thought mending a snapped bone wasn't a requirement.

So a few days later I get pushed into the ER for the doc to do his magic. I come out with my leg in bandages and strict instructions to keep the weight off the foot. I know the drill is my reply.

Follow up scans reveal that again the fibula was left to grow back on its own merit. I ask the specialist what the heck, and his reply was "oh, you don't really need that bone" . . .

so today, when I feel around the break area I can distinctly distinguish precisely where the broken fibula is and how bent it is. Some days I can even feel it when I walk.

As you start walking or riding back on eggs ——slowly——the shivers start as the adrenaline tapers off and the swelling (and pain) increases.

Its about here i where turn into the 👹 emoji. The worst part is, your S.O is still on her way (laughing at you) and there are all those speedbumps, stops, potholes, traffic circles between you and the ER yet to come haha.
I dont know how some guys just pop shoulders back trailside. I kind of wish i broke the right one as it has been coming out easier and easier. At least this way all the surgery could fix the wonky one. Now i have a bionically enhanced one and a wonky one.

PPS: just remembered, thanks Pierre who spotted me from a distance walking back to dairy shed and noticed i wasn't right. Pierre pushed my bike back for me and purposefully asked me as many questions as he could to distract me from the pain. Then helped the wife mount bike to rack once she got there.

Yoh brought back memories of a nightmare drive from Hector Norris Park to Netcare hospital Alberhoughton last of last Christmas time 🥴 - my wife had no sympathy

Background was that I had had a crazy couple of months of bike falls:-

Mid August - incident with a dog left me with a broken and cut nose and having lost a 5c coin size piece of skin off my upper lip (my son fetched me, sorted at the Emergency and sent home)

Mid September - In a hit and run, ended up in ICU for a week with a concussion and bleed on the brain (ambulance ride, I have no recollection of)

20th December - a fall at the track left me with a broken collar bone, 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung (my wife fetched me, dik de moer in, that drive from there to the hospital was the most pain I have endured since my life my friends!)
