Help needed finding out more about HANSOM

Hi All

I managed to pick up this frame at a weekend market and have since managed to put together a fixed gear fun ride. I managed to find some classic NISI rims with some awesome red Vittoria tyres. I added a standard straight MTB bar and some BMX grips ... just need to know more about the frame.

Does anyone have any info on the "HANSOM: brand? I remember seeing bikes like this around as a kid in the 80's ... but thats it.

I trawled the web but found nada ... only thing I could find was info on HANSOM cabs.

You're help would be greatly appreciated

Here is a poor quality pic from my phone ...(excuse the dirtyness of the bike .... I'm getting there. :))

Call these guys

Leandro or Liesel

Telephone : 086 110 0101

Cell 1 : 079 869 5030

Cell 2 : 083 373 9818

They are the contacts for the Dome 2 Dome race, and Gotti Hansen, the man who made your frame is the race director there... Maybe they can put you in touch with him...

thanks for the heads up.

I'm new to this ... the last bike I had was a Mongoose "Supergoose" BMX in 87.

Do you by any chance know anything about "Hansom"

Hansom bikes were made by Gotty Hansen in SA, or maybe in a neighbouring homeland as they used to be called. I think Cosmos, Alpina, Zini etc were also made there. Gotty is still around, was the president of CSA until about two years ago. I'm sure someone has his contact details. He can give you the real story.

Bikes were built by Gotty Hanson.

Bought a Hanson in 1992 when I started cycling as a 16yr old. My 1st proper road bike. Think I paid about R1200 for it.. new! Did my 1st Argus on it (3:40 something) and then sold it when offered a Cannondale 3.0 frame cheap from a friend.. that was the beginning of the end..LOL

Hansom and Zini frames were the same. I think they were made in Hamanskraal. Alpina and Cosmos were made here in Jo'burg.

Oh by the way. I think Gotty Hanson also had the rights to built Peugeot frames for the SA market.

how would I know if it is a track frame or a road frame?

look at the rear dropouts. If they are horizontal, like the old bike style, then it's a track frame. If at an angle, then it's road.

I had 2 Hansoms in the 80's. First one was a CS (carbon steel!) with the first shimano index gearing, and the second was a Reynolds 653 with full Shimano 600 groupset. Both were magnificent machines in their day!

nice bike. I bought one about 10 years ago..was second hand, and I still got it with no problems! I have the old style stick shift on mine.
