I was thinking of doing the kaarkloof enduro on an e-bike for a bit of fun,

But I noticed that you have to be 19 or older to do it on an e-bike. I’m 16, so I’m just curious to know why you have to be 19 😅.

Personally I think they should open up the e-bike category to grand masters only, if at all.

after all, it’s a sanctioned race, so it’s not just for a bit of fun. If you want to ride Karkloof for a bit of fun, you can do it any other weekend on whatever bike you choose

the challenge with Enduro is to be able to put down the fastest time in the timed “down” runs, but still manage your effort on the climbs to get back up. What’s the fun in doing an Endura race as a fit youngster if you use an e-bike to do it?

Agree 100%. I'm also 16, and the way I see it, e-bikes are only for really old people or those with injuries. If you're young, do real cycling and experience all that pain and glory and get fit.

@MATT ROBERTSON I believe this is a "rule" implemented at a CSA level and not at the event level as such.

@SamTaylor correct the events are usually sanctioned but the ebike categories are still very much classed as a "fun" category and riders are not awarded colours provincially or nationally.

I don't think the bike you choose to ride should limit what you want to race and experience. More people of bikes and doing races is what we should all want at the end of the day.

Yeah I also understand that side of it the reason is because my bike needs a major service and it’s not very nice to ride at the moment so I wanted to use a e-bike in the meantime well I wait for my bike to get fixed

Yeah it’s not so much I want to use the e-bike it’s just my bike needs a good service and it’s not very nice to ride so I was thinking about borrowing a e-bike  because I still wanted to race

Ebikes are for looser who have lost the will to live.

They don't belong on the trails, and if you old you should not be on a bike if you can't pedal it uphill.

And what's the point of riding down a hill  on a ebike.

even the Roof of Africa is lame... motorized bikes riding up and down hills.

Or ... ride what you want and stop caring what people on this very judgmental forum think. Live your life and if riding a ebike in a enduro will put a smile on your face...do it.
