I’m hoping someone is able to ID this hub.

I bought it as an SLX hub, but it has no branding on it and no signs of branding having been sanded off. I don’t think it’s an SLX hub.

I’ve made the photos as vivid as possible.

I sold it on as I bought it as a non-boost hub but it is boost. The buyer sent it back as there is a problem with the engagement. I opened it up now and I see there is damage to the area around the pawls. As far as I can tell the ratchets themselves seem ok? To me it looks like the ratchets ate the freehub body and not the other way round, so…

… I’d like to ID the hub so I can find a new freehub body and either use it or keep it as a spare. If that is viable. If the ratchets are damaged then it’s a paperweight I guess.

The hub and freehub came off a Trek that was running SLX but it’s obviously not Bontrager.

Any ideas? Closest I’ve come to ID’ing it is that it is a Chosen hub.

Edit: I ruled out Shimano MT410 due to lack of branding and also the black colour of the brake lock but 🤷‍♀️

It’s a generic hub.

In all honesty the pawls shouldn’t wear out, just do regular maintenance and if I can give any constructive advice, don’t t pack the pawls with grease , rather use a high grade wet line.

Actually after a bit of research, it appears to one of the OEM, Chosen brand of hub. The pawls on those are a known problem.

Thanks DD. I came to the same conclusion about Chosen, as the closest visual ID I could get was on a mid-tier Giant with M6100. Sadly I had to bin it as after closely inspecting it I could see two small channels in the actual ratchet teeth thingies and not knowing the model/manufacturer for sure that was throwing good money after bad.

Pity because the hubs are used in wheels built by Omnico under their House brand Zero Two. They also use more high end options from this company so they do carry spares. Your LBS could have sourced the spares for you. It might have taken a few phone calls and sending the hub to Omnico for a visual check and parts compatibility

I strip 3 or 4 of these down weekly, and the only time the pawls are a problem is when some home mech got hold of it.

‘Some home mech’ would not even know how to get to a pawl in a hub.

a home spanner who knows a thing or three though would probably not even own these in the first place.

Bicycles are basic, simple machines. I own more complicated lego sets😇

You are so right, I’m still learning how to hold an allen key.

"Basic,  simple" you say?

I'll think about that next time I sit with an 'exploded' SRAM shifter in front of me or that Shimano 11sp STI that only works when it's '"upside down"

Maybe I should get him in to rebuild a Force AXS shifter for me, with new plunger and piston included.

It’s Lego.

Sure thing!

Look, i was not looking to question your skills as a mechanic and I obviously hit a bit of a nerve claiming what you do for a living (assuming) isn't ‘that hard’. Sorry, and  im glad you are passionate about it. I get it, i would too.
All i’m saying is, bicycles are not that complicated (to me) and not EVERY home spanner is a complete and useless noob to mechanical or electrical systems. There are people out there, on here, who design, build and take apart way more complicated things for a living.

💪🙌

It’s gonna take a lot more than that to hit a nerve.

I enjoy fixing home expert mechanics jobs, some should stick to Lego.
