Hi all

How is it possible that the 35km race is costing R525??? I read that numbers are down in comparison to previous years - I am not surprised.

I love the Monster, have done it since 2016 and would like to continue but the price is getting to me.

R1000 for a day race with petrol, tolls, food, drinks AND the entry, I cannot afford it. Saving for this one race is also not in my budget...

Rant over...😉

At that rate it’s unaffordable for my family as well, as we did our first one as a family and would like to do it again in the same manner. That’s well over R2k for the ride itself, never mind accommodation etc. We didn’t find the vibe *amazing* at our first one in 2023 so there’s no dangling carrot in that regard.

To be honest, the race isnt nearly what it used to be. Since the big brand sponsors left there wasnt much left interms of organizing and "class" to the race. I mean some " Kerk basaar" races attract more people.

Sad but it is a reality. Before breedtsnek there was the monster climb which got cyclist here. Now there is just "gras polle" left.

RIP Magalies Monster

I have to agree. I did the monster as kinda a dare which became a reverse dare and me and a buddy slogged out the proper full original monster in 2014 and 2015. I later returned to what to me felt like a watered down money maker. I drove there and drove back the same day a far cry from where I almost could not walk after 2014 and 2015.

I was hoping the sting would be put back at some stage but alas not much was improved and the race lost a lot of appeal to many...
