Morning!

I have a rocking issue with my eggbeaters. I recently purchased eggbeaters on Bikehub to realise that the sides of the eggbeaters does not make contact with my shoe which causes sideways rocking. I see crankbrothers sell the contact sleeve for the eggbeaters but no one has them in stock and i tried tape that also only last a few rides.

I would really appreciate the advice and help on how to resolve the issue or perhaps a supplier that do sell them

In my experience, if you are used to riding shimano spds, you will find that eggbeaters do have more 'float' in them. Is that perhaps what you are interpreting as rocking?

Those contact sleeves look as though they are something that could be 3D printed.

Yes i have the shim plates on my shoes

Yes that is what i mean by rocking there is a gap on the side of the eggbeaters and my shoe which create a rocking motion

Oh ok. I know what you mean by rocking, although I didnt have that problem myself. I liked my eggbeaters, it took some getting used to riding with them, it was lekker, up until the bearings disintegrated and the local agent either didnt have stock of the service pack or didnt want to sell it to me because they wanted me to buy new ones. Either way, XT SPD’s are unbreakable so I now ride with them.

Eggbeaters are known to eat into the soles, possibly leading to a less than snug fit.

These will move the cleat further from the bottom of the shoe making the rocking worse. The wings of the pedal have to be thickened using the depicted sleeves.

tou could also build up the thickness of the sides using heat shrink tubing

Unless the eggbeater has already eaten into the soles, thereby resulting in bigger play between the shoe and the pedal. But fundamentally you are correct.

same boat here. I never liked the metal on metal feel of SPDs, so bought some eggbeaters at a bikeshop closing down fire sale (in 2008). For 10+ years I did everything on crankbros across all my bikes, loved the feel and everything of them.

except the servicing, constant servicing. i have lots and lots of broken crankbros pedal parts. it got ridiculous.

I am back on SPDs. (I also do adventure racing, so it was silly for me to have my own spares.)

now back to your query. that could just be more float, which is great and you might not be used to it.if not then just try this with your own hack. find some piping/tape and see how it goes.

is it too macguyver?

If the bars have eroded the sole then the shoe lugs will fit more tightly on pedal wings. That’s why the sleeves exist so as to build up the wings to engage the shoe lugs and take the load off the sole of the shoe

This hack reduces vertical play but can increase shoe roll if the shoe lugs are not fully engaged on the shiny bits (wings) of the pedal body

I dont understand this analogy: if the bars have eaten into the soles, then there is essentially more vertical play, not less. More vertical play will result in more rotation around the centre point of contact, in other words, side to side rocking.

Anyways, are you were. Not my pedals, not my problem.

The height from the top Of the engagement bars to the top of the wings where the shoe lugs engage is fixed.

if h sole wears it lowers the lugs toward the wings which means the lugs engage the wings. If you shim the cleat you add material to The sole which raises the lugs and you need to take up that space with the pedals wing shims which is what the OP is looking for
