Views on the Titan Racing Cypher DC Carbon Empire

I am 90% sold on a Titan Racing Cypher DC Gen 2 Carbon Empire as it represents great value, ticks the new geometry box and I like what the Titan brand represents. This bike will be used for trails and marathon racing (including. Stage Races). I am looking for a confidence inspiring bike. 
 

I am just a bit short on hands on feedback on how the bike rides and what it is like to live with. So would appreciate some comments from the forum  

In addition, if you have a Carbon Empire, what frame does it have? The one at my LBC has the SLC Frame and not the UCL frame that is specced on the website which is a bit of a let down.

I am also interested in a one, maybe not the Empire but carbon Cypher for sure.

My “concern” is the price difference relative to market. It’s around R20k to 30k less than comparable bikes from big brands.

 

I guess it’s my South African nature but where is the catch.

Personally I'm eyeing the Gen 2 DC Comp. I've seen mention on Facebrick of XT and LTD models that are coming for a bit less, but I don't know enough about the various shocks and forks to know if the difference in price is worth it.

The bigger brands spend a lot more on marketing, including reviews on Youtube etc. That probably helps explain at least some of the price difference. The components are the same, and the warranty looks very good.

I'm currently riding one for a long term review - have done Cape Epic and Berg & Bush. Zero issues. I have only good things to say - geo and handling are spot on for South African marathon riding: https://bikehub.co.za/news/first-look-titan-racing-cypher-dc-carbon-empire/

That’s awesome and really good to hear. What frame does yours have? I see the article also quotes a UCL frame but seems Titan has moved to their heavier Carbon frame in the latest spec. 
 

I also need to have the dropper changed to fit my short legs.

Yes, I had to put a Lyne Components dropper on. Yup. That is the one. 

Agreed on the dropper, my LBS will help with the dropper swap

Its a brilliant bike and very well specced. It also helps that the warrantee is transferrable should you want to sell your bike down the line.

I am loving my Carbon Empire DC. My frame says SCL (Super Carbon Lite), not sure what the difference is. I'm a pretty hefty dude and bike has handled 100 % so far. Ride feel is super, spec is awesome. Dropper works fine for me and I'm on a large. Haven't changed anything on the bike and the only thing I might change is the chainring to a bigger one. I've always been a sram/rockshox fan over the fox/shimano alternatives and this bike is rad.

I actually agree with you. It’s crazy what the price of this sport has grown into. The irony is that this bike represents value in that it’s well discounted from its sticker price and comparable bikes are R130,000 upwards. 
 

The spec levels below this still represent great value too and geo remains the same.

If that's the kind of bike that you want, need The Components are of good Quality.

I suggest that you ride the bike to determine if you are happy with it.
