Any thoughts on KERB mountain bikes?

I am starting out and my budget is very tight. I saw a brand called KERB at sportsmans warehouse next to the Scotts and Titans. They are priced around R7000.

 

Any thoughts on this brand? They are shimano equipped and come with pedals included.

I Would stay away, cable actuated brakes which have no feeling, it doesn't say if the fork is air or coil, you would want an air fork and these bikes are usually poorly built which will cost a lot of maintenance to get it right and going.

Try and get one of these bikes on bikehub, size dependant.

The problem is I need 2 identical bikes otherwise one twin will think I favour one sibling over the other.

Absolutely stay away from those - if they must be identical stretch the budget to look at Titan entry level bikes or Trek also do some nice entry level stuff that's great for kids.

It comes with pedals AND reflectors!

never heard of shimano etf-2100 or whatever the groupset is, but it is 7 speed.

without looking at it in person, the feeling is that it will be cheap and nasty. you can do better

If you really want new and are fine with an unknown frame set, then these Patriots from Solomons have decent spec for the price. Waaaay better than the Kerb and priced at just shy of 10k.
