Everywhere I look these days it’s adverts for protein shakes and the like. More pressure these days to buy protein shakes than there was to hit that spliff back in varsity but I digress.

Question is, is this the new balance band of the 2020’s or is there actual benefits to it all?

I started to track my KJs that I burn and consume in a day to shake some unnecessary weight and to build more muscle. Buuut what I was shocked by was seeing how much someone actually burns on long rides and hard efforts, so to replace that amount of energy in eating healthy food becomes an effort just because of the shear volume.

That is where the protein shake comes in handy, its quick, easy to take in after a hard effort and its quick for your body to take that energy and put it back into your muscles. Convenience truly is king

The gap between gym and lunch is looooong. So a protein shake before I jump into the shower makes life a lot easier. And it is the easiest way to add creatine.
For post workout recovery it is way easier than food. But after a race, the shake is ditched for a burger and a beer. Because it just tastes so much better.
