Gman1834 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I am riding Shimano's but would prefer a pedal with a little float - what do you recommend or is float a bad idea on road pedals? My MTB pedals have float and I have no discomfort at all. I recently upgraded from MTB pedals to road pedals (shimano 105) with float (Yellow cleats) and it feels great it has lots of float.
GoLefty!! Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Float or rotation...? Only Time and Crank Bros has both Float and Rotational freedom. The others only allow rotation.

You definitely need movement....it's just better to prevent injury this way, although there's a few guys around that prefer fixed cleats (Red-Shimano & Black-LOOK cleats)....try and avoid it. You really need to have a near perfect action to get away with them.

The reason I say had is becuase if you've spend alot of time on the MTB and go back to the road bike, it feels like there is almost no float. Talking about float, now I want a coke float.

You are right Mampara...Some guys feel that the 9deg float is too much....for that reason Keo cleats come in a grey version which offers 4.5deg....which should be near perfect for everyone.
AndreZA Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Mr Look, are the "easy grip" or something like that cleata here yet? It's the ones that have rubber tips so you do not need cleat covers. Almost like the Shimano cleats.

What sets them apart is the fact that they grip on your carbon sole....so there's no slipping...and they won't slip when you walk. Check with your LBS...retailing for around R205.
evanr4 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Le Tour was won on Speedplay Zero's. Best money I have ever spent on cycling kit, sore knees no more.
