Hi Guys

My girlfriend was coming home last night and was almost hi-jacked:

She was travelling down Linden rd (becomes 3rd ave.), coming from Barry Hertzog (Emmerentia side), and was in the slipway onto the road that becomes Tana rd.

1 guy with a gun approached her from the right, while another came at her from the left. Luckily she freaked out and floored it and narrowly missed the car in front of her.

Please be aware when using the intersection - MTBers will know it, you have to cross over it when going from the spruit to emmarentia. This makes it an easy get away and hiding spot for any criminals, given the open land and trees on either side.

To make matters worse, the new robot installed at the top of Tana road means that traffic backs up into the slipway, meaning you have to stop here.

Please be careful out there folks!

That is that corner where that Isidingo woman died.

Ashleigh Callie, there was only one of her

thanks all.

She was badly shaken but she's doing ok. I offered to go fetch her whenever she works late, but as she said, I could just as well have been the car ahead of her - what good would it have done?

I did call the Linden police station and asked them to send someone over there.

Yip Para, thats where she died, really nasty corner if you're coming from Linden side.

slightly off the topic:

I've been wondering for some time now: what message does goverment want to convey with those signs on almost every intersection in Pta/Jhb.

"BEWARE OF YOUR OWN SAFETY"

Do they mean:

a) Be on the lookout for suspious movement in the tall grass (we don't cut) next to the road, while slowing down approching a 4way stop, robot, intersection.

b) When, women traveling alone late at night , it's allright to skip a red robot after making sure there's no oncoming traffic. We will not send you a fine in the post.

c) When confronted by a would be hi-jacker, it would be fine if you use exessive force to defend yourself, and in the event of killing the attacker we will not hunt you down and put you in jail .

d)Lastly, you are on your own and we just do not give a damn.

I'm confussed.

heard on the radio yesterday that Marlboro Road (near the offramp) is also a "hi risk" area after an attempted armed hijacking 2 nights ago

that's right. i work in that office park next to the N3. with gautrain works well underway in the area, there's plenty of places to hide and surprise an unsuspected motorist.

about a year ago, one of the Park's security guards was shot and killed right infornt of the gate to our parking area.

I've been there for almost 2 years too! Used to ride to work until they narrowed the bridge over the highway... cars come WAY too close for comfort now! We'll have to do coffee (read beer) sometime Big%20smile
