I've got an Easton EC90SL Fork, with the Carbon Steerer.

I'm trying to take the expander from the Headset Cap out of the steerer tube.

How do I do this???

I tried turning a bolt into the expander and pulling up on the head of the bolt with pliers, But she aint moving. Am I doing this right???

I hope it is a carbon expanding bolt and not a flower nut. If it is a expanding bolt you remove it with a 4 or 5mm allen key. Just make sure, some of them turn clockwise to loosen.

I think I'll take a picture and post it...

From the top, it looks like a aluminium nut (with one slit down the side for expansion) and one threaded hole in the middle (the fixing hole for the bolt from the cap)

But doing that, you are expanding the bolt, then its not supposed to come out...

The allen key will fit in this hole. Try turning it slightly both ways to feel when it loosens. Just make sure you use the correct size.

Are you saying the fist bit of the hole is suitable for an allen key, and the second bit is threaded? (did appear threaded the whole way through)

Will try that though...

Otherwise maybe makes sense to push it all the way through.

The bottom part is not threaded. So you might need a long allen key.

O I C Embarrassed

Planning on fitting one of those TOKEN Caps, but need to get my Easton one out first...

OK, this did not work.

I stuck the longest Allen key down there, 5mm didn't fit (as it's M5 thread), so tried a 4mm, and I didnt feel anything beyond the threaded section (just a black hole)!

And I cant push it through either, cos the bottom of my steerer tube is sealed!

Mine is just like Mud Dee described. Long 4mm allen key, turn clockwise will loosen the expander.

Try shine a light down there, see if you can see the allen bolt.

Yip used one of those directional LED lights to look down there, and all I see is thread...

Will post a pic ASAP!

AAAhhhhhh....

Found out how it comes out... Tricky little bastard!

For this Easton Expander bolt it doesnt require an allen key.

What you do is:

turn in the cap & bolt all the way, then loosen two or three turns

then give it a forceful hit with your hand on the head of the bolt/cap.

this pushes the cone down

and releases the expander...

Thanks for the help guys.
