Interesting topic.

It occurs to me more and more, that people in general these days (please note I said "in general") have just lost all forms of courtesy and respect for their fellow humans.

It costs nothing to be polite on the road and allow a "gap" for someone else to get into the traffic flow. But today, if you give one car a gap, another three or four behind will steal the same gap, causing frustration and road rage. The net result is that many have become less couteous and the whole saga escalates and creates more problems because then idiots just force gaps.

Similarly, I have noticed that motorists will overtake another vehicle and come straight at you forcing you off the road or face a head on (cycle vs motor not fair or even odds.) instead of just waiting five or ten seconds.

What has gotten into people these days? Why have we lost common decency, respect and courtesy when there is no price tag?

IMNAAHO, television and the BS they show is largely to blame. Families do not sit around any more and chat about such issues as decency and TV certainly doesn't advocate such noble issues any more. In fact, the lesson we learn form most of the cr@p they dish out is that all problems are solved with a gun.

Playstation and computer games also teach bad morals.

Fandacious.

Some can differentate between fact and fiction.

Others have a problem with the difference between fanatsy and reality.

Children growing up with all these "safe" outlets, usually have no idea of how to interact socially. Bad manners, lack of decency and respect are all symptomsof a sick society where we are primarily self centred / selfish and care little about anyone else.

Sadly this reflects the world we live in. Moronic motorists and psycopathic cyclists are just some of the problems today. Let's stay well away form such other issues as affirmative shopping, hijacking, bike jacking, murder, rape and general mayhem.

We are busy self destructing here.

I don't think the Playstation/Computer game content is to blame per se. It's rather the fact that they're used as a substitute for interacting with the kid.

Dump them in front of the TV, rather then encouraging them to play outside or playing with the them.

Other countries in the world where people play MORE computer games, they behave better on the road.  This intollerance is a definite SA issue.

Maybe the secret is to let the kids play more games?!

Why South Africans have no manners?  Interesting.

Possibly because South Africa's are not used to living in cloes proximity with one another?  Their personal space is so big that it encompasses the entire town house complex.  THerefore they are unable to ever relax, resulting in a constant stress reaction.

Secondly, too much too soon.  A guy who failed matric is now the ANCYL leader and his insecurity and ego, mixed together makes him edgy and demanding?

Thirdly, fast cars without the ability to actually drive properly?

Lastly, the attitude that Africa is a tough country and the biggest bastard deserves to win.

I wish I could drive a G6 gun or a Rooikat at 60km/hr during rush hour traffic on th N1.  Then I can shout "Africa is a tough country" every time I crush a fine german sportscar.

"Thirdly, fast cars without the ability to actually drive properly?"

When it comes to saffas and road manners, that is one of the keys, that and the mindset that people's who's cars cost a lot feel more entitled to the road/resources/whatever...
