I fitted these to my roadbike about a month ago. Initially no problem. Then I started experiencing problems with my brakes. The farrel that goes into the lever, didn't fit 100% which caused the see through lining to fold and then not release the break. Then the shifters started giving problems too. (not shifters but shifter cables) Then my LBS informed me that these are now stretched and need replacement.

Well honestly, I have never had to replace Shimmano cables after less than one month. I have tried to contact the local agent, but they keep on telling me that they will get back to me.

Needless to say. Goodbye bling hallo original shimmano.(At a quarter of the price)

julle wil mos. Do yourself a favour and get sommer XTR cables and normal SIS housing. Don't need to get the complete kit. Should work out about R250 for complete set.

should have seen the mechanic at cool heat cursing this funrider from cape town that sent his bike all the way up to jhb because his brakes were not releasing properly and his gears were skipping all of this on a Dura ace equipped bike

Cause being alligator cables

so all he did was pack it up again and send a nice little letter back saying Use the proper stuff and you wont have to look like an idiot

I doubt you managed to stretch the cables on your bike using only the brifter's little levers. Your mechanic has delusions of Hulk-ness.

mak daddy the inner of the casing is the problem its a very thin tube that gets buggered up by the outer bling because it is very soft

the simple thing here is that if you want bling buy new wheels if you want your cables to look flash then you in the wrong sport

i don't know what all of you guys are on about, i have had mine for almost a year now and never any problems. still shifts as good as it did from day one. and our conditions here are less than ideal, lots of mud and rain. ive never even lubed the cables. maybe just my good luck. im going to order some for my new anthem x im building.

I don't know what type of diagnosis you'll make with that information. Riding hard has no effect on cables. Riding often, a little.

The OP's problem came from a rubbish installation to start off with.

Cables deteriorate mostly from environmental conditions. The inners corrode and become course, lubrication becomes sticky and emulsifies at the cable ends where water intrudes and the inner teflon tube wears down on the inside of bends in the cable. The latter can be accellerated  by frequent shifting but the damage is mostly caused from corroded cables fretting at the inners.

The best solution is standard cables from a reputable manufacturer. These are cheap enough to be changed often.

hard? not sure how to answer that. but the uk conditions make it a lot harder, we didnt realy have a summer this year, it rained all the time. i ride at least 2 times a week in hard off road conditions, and other wise use the bike for commuting everyday. so its have seen a fair amount of use. and they still perform great. im sure it will wear out eventually, but for time being its working great.
