I`m doing the 2009 Epic, does anyone have some info on the terrain of the 2009 race? Can it get wet/muddy there? Would have gone with Crossmark if it started from Knysna, but don`t know what to expect now, what tyres should I go for? Continental Mountain King?
Bike Mob Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I used Crossmark UST front. Larsen TT UST rear. Zero Punctures. Plenty of grip and good rolling resistance.

Cranky Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Go for the Mountain Kings 2.2 UST. Great all rounder and tough. Likely to be more rocks this year. Not too bad if it does rain and get muddy.

Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 For the terrain to be traversed during the 2009 Cape Epic you will need a UST tyre.The reason being you will need a tough tyre that can handle rough terrain and has high resistance to cutting through the tread and side wall. Lightweight Stans'ed tyres will be found wanting unless you run them with high enough pressure to make your singletrack experience a negative one. I would also not spend too much time debating which tyre; rather spend the time riding singletrack and learning the required skills. You will need this more than anything.

Ek oefen vir die "klein" wedrenne soos die OFM en 94.7 en so aan, maar die heeltyd is daar hierdie groot skaduwee oor alles, asof die "klein" wedrennetjies nie eintlik meer saakmaak nie...Ek sal in Januarie oor tyres begin bekommer...
