I was an accident...

Yes, riding without an helmet is a NO NO but rather pray for them than blame the parents...They will feel guilty for the rest of their life.

The bike at 4 is nothing to be honest some kids have SA Titles in MX at 4 but the no helmet thing is their wn fault and they must now live with it.

I certainly hope so.

Not to lay blame at age, but this young mother should have known better and put her foot down.

agreed, they know how stupid they've been, but this kinda thing's not on:

"This morning someone said they had no sympathy for me and people should not pray for my child. They said people like me were sh!t," Van Heerden said.

Allowing your kid his own quad, and allowing him onto the street WITH NO HELMET, even though supervised.... EPIC FAIL.

Yip I agree no helmet is the most stupidist thing you can ever do on a motocrcycle but as I said the age thing is nothing there are plenty of 4 yr olds hanging cable around the world.

You have a point Colonel. I won my first MX gold at the age of 6. My parents had a strict rule regarding the use of helmets. I still pull kids off farm roads if they dont have a helmet on.

About a year ago I took the keys out of a quad bike and told the kid to call his dad and bring a helmet. The father arrived and was ready to give me a bashing. Him and I are now friends...

I hate quad bikes. Just Like I hate jet ski's.

The same type of people purchase both. The same people seem to have the same bad attitudes toward other trail/road/water/sea users.

They both suck, and both bad for the enviorment!!!!

Dont get me started!!!

Are these the same parents that ride around in their cars with the kids on the back seat not buckled up, or STANDING on the front passenger seat while they driveAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

Somehow when you live in a glass house you should not throw stones.

it is not for us to judge them,  they will live with this for the rest of their lives.

We do other things wrong,  maybe those who judge should first clean their own house before they jump to conclusions and slander

OK, time for the 'we-do-it-like-this' bit from Europe...

The laws in SA are too lax and not applied at all.  If you ride with an unlicenced vehicle (which a quad and a pocketbike is) on a public road, in Holland, you can expect the following:

1. The bike gets confiscated

2.  The bike is destroyed.

3. You get a fine of 400 Euro for driving without a registered vehicle, helmet, licence and for endangering the lives of others!

I've seen some very unhappy pocketbike (ex)owners.

Apply the law and people don't have to feel like idiots when tragedy strikes.

BTW I have been very unpopular (with kids and family) for telling my kids they can't ride on their cousin's quad on the farm, but I don't care!!!
