Where was this taken? It doesnt look like Tokai

Posted

This looks like the Puff Adder crossing on the Rhodes Mem road! Seriously, a few months ago I had to correct my line, coming around a corner, to get around one of these okes - in fact it may actually have been the very same snake because it looks like it might be the same spot. hectic. I didn't stop to take pics.

Yup, Rhodes Mem road towards Devil's Peak last week. We sat and stared at each other for a while before I remembered my phone had a camera. Seen this one twice at this spot - it's > a metre long and IMO 'owns' this section of road, sir.

Seen a slightly smaller one at the neck in Tokai too.

Snakes scare me.

Saw a fairly large, and very dead Puff Adder in Tokai yesterday early evening on the Jeep track just below Vasbyt. Seems it was run over by one of the trucks as it was quite *flat*, but unmistakeably a Puff Adder.

Wow! yip, they're thriving up there in those pine forests, which is why the initial post seems odd to me. Why would they reintroduce the puffs, when they are already there. The lesson learned from this though is to be vigilant and aware when stomping around the place at Tokai. I do this all too often, get so ampd and worked up about the riding, I forget I'm in nature. This is usually the cue for a bunch of baboons to be around the next corner!

I heard that the other day as well. It kinda freaked me out a little as most of the Adder family are quite dangerous.

MOST?? All of them are dangerous' date=' the cousins, aunts, uncles and close relatives aswell not just the Adder family.

Not the Night Adder, which will give you a nasty headache after a bite. But it's not fatal.

I came down meurants single track a while ago from the look out point. Just as i was coming into the forest area there was nice big puffy lying up the track. luckily i spotted it. I was going pretty fast at that point. In the braking process i started to do a very cool front wheel manual untill i realised i am still not going to make it. Somehow i managed to go of the track plumeting down a mountain and jumping into a tree. Only to find my mate coming from behind see a dismounted bike and "wit geskrikte" cyclist haning in a tree.....

There are also cobras lurking throughout those mountains.

Be paricularly wary of streams and rocky gullies where there is water.

They like frogs.

Oh hell yes, I was pushing my bike(downhill bike) just at the start of the tar a few years back when I noticed what looked like a long piece of Aluminium extrusion bent to stand upright In the middle of the road about 20m ahead of us. then the Piece of Ali started moving, and Oh mother of #$* did I get a fright! yes a Cape Cobra standing about shoulder hight! we had to pass where It was "parked off" so we threw rocks at it to try and scare it off, but the bugger took shots at the rocks flying passed it Instead of getting a fright!! sh*tballs those are scary.
