GT oke Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Hi everyone.. I want to know what shox you think is the best i can use? I weigh 55kg and thought i should take the rock shox sid race? Or the reba wc?? Only thing of the sid is its quite soft...or i should take a manitou R7... What do you think will be the best for xc riding??

Wyatt Earp Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 The new SID has been upgraded to 32mm. stanchions, I weigh 82 kg's at my lightest and have not had any problems with my SID team. The Reba World cup has been discontinued, I have one of those too and to be honest I prefer the feel of the new SID. The only thing is that the new SID is a maximum of 100 mm. travel. The new SID team is also lighter (just a tad) than the Reba World Cup.

vanniri Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I've ridden with most brands since the elastomer Judy's existed. Of the shox you mentioned the Reba has excellent reliability, the new Sid compared to the old one is stiffer but heavier. I used to ride a manitou super - lots of flex (even more than the old Sid), recently I bought a complete bike with a Manitou MRD R7 (the one with the carbon wrap). I was very pessimistic before my first ride but since then it gained my respect in the stiffness aspect. Bottom line: your weight is 55kg - I would consider nothing heavier than a Sid or R7. If you want to race XC you go as low as your weight and wallet let you. Since you weight so little as second budget option will be to get one of the old Sid's - I suppose old stock would sell for virtually nothing, I saw a race the other day and it was dirt cheap. I also do not understand what you describe as the Sid being soft, since both the rebound and damping is regulated by air tuning the options is virtually unlimited. Iwan Kemp Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 First thing you need to know when shopping for a new front shock is that it is called a fork.R7 is a great fork, but servicing can only be done in Jhb unless your LBS would like to have a go. Rock Shox will be the best va,ue for money in the short and long haul. The last longer and are generally less expensive than Fox. For peace of mind and some spare change go for a Reba or SID if you can afford it. Otherwise a R7

I weigh 85kg and have had no hassles with the Sid at all. The Reba is beefier but at 55kg you'll be fine with the Sid. The Rock Shox can be serviced at most reasonable shops and spares are easy enough to get.
