I had never heard of Total Cycling, been to the site and it looks very promising. Alas they don't have a wide selection of Suspension Forks. For the rest however their pricing is excellent, on the items I am keen to acquire they are better than CRC.

The flat rate shipping looks excellent as well, considering that option has EMS tracking. From what I have read CRC's Free Shipping or cheap option has tracking only to the point it leaves the UK (is this correct?).

Any drawbacks on Total Cycling that I need to know?

Ek dink julle is besig om soos die hond julle stert te jaag! LBSes started with the price fixing. What did they expect to happen? Dat ons maar net gaan k@k en betaal. Ek stem saam met BH. Dis my geld en nie julle sn nie. You want me to part with it, the onus is on you to make it worth my while.

Ons is veronderstel om in n free market te opereer en julle as die LBSes (trek die skoen aan as dit pas) is self daarvoor verantwoordelik dat ons as verbruikers ander diens verskaffers soek!

This whole "buy local or import" debate has gotten quite interesting hey... here's my two cents worth (I'll keep to one language so nobody gets hurt Wink):

I've been looking at importing stuff for a while now.  I'm a big fan of online shopping as the prices from overseas are generally surprisingly competitive and the range is normally better than what's available here.  For example, the latest model SIDI shoes stocked by my LBS are from 2007...  Having said that, the things I have bought lately have all been from my LBS because I've negotiated good prices.

I don't agree with supporting local business just because it's local - it's not a charity.  They are selling something.  If they can't make it worth my while to buy there, I won't.  That's just simple economics.  So let's look at my latest example.  I want a pair of cycling shoes.  A popular South African online store where I'd normally order from doesn't have the latest models (in fact their selection is pretty poor).  But for the model they do have, they want R4000.  The bike shop around the corner has the same model for R2600.  Now, there is absolutely no reason why there should be a price differene of R1400.  It isn't justified and I won't pay it.  So I'd go with the cheaper option around the corner.

Now, I can't even get the same model shoe from CRC because it's so outdated they don't have it on their website.  But I could get the updated model for about R2500.  So that makes more sense.

So I know it's harsh, but that's business.  Customers don't give away money to be nice and supportive, they do it for a good deal.  If my LBS can't beat import prices, then they have to find another way to secure my business.  Be that through exceptional service, free goodies, whatever... as long as it's worth it to me.  Luckily, I can negotiate with mine, so they'll probably have my vote of confidence for a while still!

On that note, is there any way at all to change my username?? I used that one thinking I'd get to choose a different screen name, but sadly I'm stuck with this now... Confused  I'd hate to have to create a whole new profile just for that...
