In all seriousness' date=' is a bike ride worth your life?  I dont care who I'm riding with, if the robot's red I stop - and if you're wearing Westgate Wheelers kit and you jump a red robot you are asked to return your kit and your membership is terminated immediately.

[/quote']

That is goodnews but then they will just join Cycle Lab. They don't care what their members do or rather what they do while wearing the club's Team A kit. This is what I got when I brought a similar matter to their attention. " I would like to point out to you that Cycle Lab is a Club and cannot take responsibility for every individual on the road . "

I realise that' date=' I ride with that bunch often and there has never been a time I've felt unsafe passing through robots. I think the last part was subjective that's all...those guys know the route well, they ride it often, the guy is from the EC, at 6 in the morning P**sed off because the guys were riding 6 abreast (the whole road), think maybe he went off on a tangent...just my opinion.[/quote']

Lemme guess - you were one of the idiots this morning but you are too chicken poo to admit it??!!!

Lemme tell you, that I wasn't there this morning, I was riding west. And no I'm not chicken sh*t to admit anything...I take rsposibility for all my actions. When I ride, I ride safely. If those GROWN MEN want to ride in a bunch and follow the first guy through then let them. If you don't like a group or the way they ride then don't ride with them, If you were not the front guy at the robot then you'll never know his thoughts, he didn't hold a gun at anybodies head, and I don't see one of the guys from the bunch this morning writing on this thread complaining...about THE FRONT GUY.

I would like to complain about a mad cyclist waving a gun at my head this morning in Boksburg....Wink

Really now this behaviour about STUPID cyclists has been thrashed to death on the hub, lets leave it at that.

HOWEVER I do object the term Boksburg Boneheads, just cause they were in Boksburg does not make them Boksburgers...

until someone does get hit...and then everyone will moan and shout and scream and blame the motorist...who, in this case, is not at fault...

pls understand - the purpose of this thread was not to persecute anybody...just to make it known that riding at the front of a bunch comes with a fair whack of responsibility...

Very often, newcomers to a group will not know the dynamics of that bunch...a few years ago i joined a bunch on a route i was not familiar with...they did the same thing, gunning through robots left and right...if i had known they would ride like that i would not have joined them.

Unfortunately it comes down to so much more than the perceptions of the guys in the group, and the perceptions of other cyclists - its the motorists perceptions of bunches like this that worries me. why should they tolerate or respect us if we cant follow the rules of the road? the very same rules we are very quick to point out when a motorist is at fault?

i merely referred to them as boksburg boneheads so that if they read this thread, they would know it was them i was talking about...cos they were in boksburg.

Unfortunately, if i had called the thread 'Moron cyclists who jump robots', it would apply to a very large number of groups.....

and it had a nice ring to it....Wink

I hear what you are saying and in principle agree with your views, the only area we differ is in the role of the Front Guy, the Group as a whole takes responsibility for how they ride. People have a right to ride with whatever group they want, as the guy said about the club that bans you, cool, if that's the club you are looking for. Likewise I know a lot of guys happy at the Lab. I don't condone the style of the bunch this morning, but the front guy doesn't control the bunch.

Enjoy te rest of your day.

Cheers

That sounds about right? Must McLean and Co now take the wrap for every person who wears a Cyclelab jersey and misbehaves?

Two points:

1)  It is each and every individual persons responsibility to uphold the traffic law.  If you pay attention to a group leader who is not an officer of the law and adhere to him to jump a red robot, the you are just as responsible.

2) Don't trust anybody.  Look for yourself to see if it is save to enter an intersection.  At the end of the day you need to be responsible for you own survival.

These two points apply to newbies and experienced riders in a group.

Personally no of course not, but collectively the club MUST take some responsibility for its members.

If you went into a shop and the salesman was rude and swore at you, would you not feel it was the companies responsibility to reprimand him/her - or if you complained would you be happy if the owner said, "I cant take responsibility for my employees behaviour" - I doubt it.!!

Fact is, responsible clubs will screen complaints, if a certain cyclist or group of cyclists get a number of complaints they MUST be reprimanded and told to toe the line or asked to leave, saying "its not our responsibility" is a cop out - plain and simple.!

About 9am I was out riding my mtb near Greenstone Hill. There is a 3-way stop (okay 4-way but one side is gated) at top of Aitken rd on the road the connects Greenstone to Terrace rd. There was nothing coming, but I slowed right down and 4 or 5 'HEROS' flew past me carrying good speed, but swearing at me for almost causing an accident.

Next time I will cause a friggin accident because I DO OBEY ROADSIGNS!!

Don't know what club they were from but the tossers need to go to traffic school ..... don't nursery schools have thngs like that?

Hey d i c k h e a d s I hope you are reading this!

I hardly get involved in discussions like this because I have been running and riding on the road almost daily for well over 25 years and I could probably count the issues I have had on one hand, generally I think if you behave in a responsible and obliging manner people recprocate in a similar manner, of course theres the odd driver who rides a bit close for comfort or hoots unnecessarily but thats life, most truck drivers have a limited understanding of the dynamic effects a 36 wheeler will have on a 7 kg bicycle, its not done intentionally, we all make mistakes that effect others in some way or another - lighten up a bit and get used to it or dont venture out.

Porky - you are dead right.

'Responsible' and 'obliging' are key.

Seems to me a lot of cyclists forget that we share the road with other users(nearly all of whom are bigger and meaner and will do a lot more damage to you than you will to them).

I ride from Hout Bay usually 5 mornings out of 7 taking in Chappies, Suikerbossie and Victoria.

3 hours later I'm driving Victoria on my way to work, and every day I see the same 4 favourite stupidities from my brother riders:

1. Running the lights at bottom of Suikerbossie. In both directions.

2. Riding 3 or 4 abreast having a fat chat, well into the road.

3. U-turns across 2 lanes of traffic at top of Suikerbossie or anywhere along Victoria without looking.

4. Pulling out of a slipstream to take a turn at the front without looking behind, and without warning.

And less common, but equally stupid - thinking that doing 70km/h down a hill gives you the right to take up the whole road.

If this kind of stuff gets my back up, imagine what it does to non cyclist drivers.

It's dangerous enough without trying to piss them off as well.
