Seatpost sliding down

JPW#

Recommended Posts

I have a Gt mtb and the "thin" 27.2 Kcnc seatpost keep on sliding down, I make the clamp supertight but it still slides down, I'm planning on using lock tight or a very thin shim , any other advice would help, losing weight should help too )

Be sure that there is no grease around the clamp area.

Perhaps use a carbon assembly compound which adds some friction.

You could also sand paper the post a bit in the area where you clamp it.

Get one of those lights that clamp on the seatpost. The light itself is removable so you don't need to leave it on( but useful for the early morning rides).

The fix is cheap(around R80), won't damage the post and it's light(as opposed to heavy-not see in the dark light).

The clamp will rest on the frame clamp, preventing further slipping.

worked for meSmile

good luck

What I use is a little bit of lock-tight smeared over the area that slides into the frame, and then spray it with firm hold hair spray. Mount the post, tighten enough and let it set for a while. I've never had issues after that, and due to the nature of the spray and lock-tight, you can remove the post as well because it doesn't set like superglue.

Nee, man, moenie na hulle luister nie. Vat jou fiets na WE toe. Vra vir Mark Rich en se jy het 'n shimmy (sp?) nodig.Dit maar jou seatpost 'n klein klein bietjie dikker en sort jou uit.

i can also suggest a friction/carbon compound of sorts if that doesnt work get yourself a shim made

Sounds like it could be one of these:

1. Seat post clamp has gone soft, if so, get a new one, but get one with a bolt and not a quick release.

2. Grease in there somewhere, if so, clean it and then put in some carbon assembly compound.

Is your seatpost the same diameter as your seat tube. If not, overtightening the clamp will deform your frame at the camp area and that is not good. If there is a difference get a corredt seatpost shim as fanie fiets suggested. Be carefull with the Loctite idea as that may fuse your seatpost to the frame, and that could have disatrous effects.

Is this an aluminium seatpost. If so, remember they must be lubricated with a thin layer of grease.

Cut a shim out of a coke/fanta/beer.......tin and put it around your seatpost and tighten. You won't ever have problems again.Thumbs%20Up

Dude, I had the same problem.

Spray a bit of hairspray on the contact area of the post before inserting it. Then tighten the clamp. I haven't had it slip down yet and it's 6 months later.

Try the following:

1.Drill a small hole through the frame into the seatpost, insert a selftapping screw and, voila!!

2. Apply superglue to the seatpost, insert into frame and fasten clamp
