OK so thes hubbers are a cruel bunch LOL

a clincher is a normal tyre. It has a bead around the two inner edges that locate into a groove on the inside of the rim. You have to use a tube with clinchers.

A tubby is a tyre that is a totally enclosed casing with a tube inside it that is glued to the rim(needs special rims). Supposedly lighter with better rolling resistance - but he qualitiy of todays  clinchers renders them imho almost obsolete.

Sift out the poo and you'll get the answer you need... just be aware that there may well be plenty of poo to sift smiley2.gif

Go for tubbies!   The are cool (all the pro's have them), apparent magical low rolling resistance 'feel' due to very high tyre pressure and deliver hours of pleasure at the roadside (just ask Marius, Fatty and ShortLegs - boy did I laugh!!!!)

Clinchers are just too heavy, boring and don't give you the same kind of puncture tales to entertain your wife/girlfriend/mates with!

Tubbies, shoudlve been in the museum by now due to technological advancement and the design of clinchers..However still 95% of Pros are racing on tubulars, due to the better rolling resistance, higher pressures, comfort, handling characteristics, and weight savings(due to most current tubular rims now being carbon)

They are definitely more comfortable, due its mere design. i.e Tube in an enclosed casing [without any restrictive sidewall bead as in clinchers] , fixed(glued) to a rim.

Also due to this design, pinch flat punctures are non-existent in tubbies. HOWEVER , puncturing otherwise is a pain, and if not fixed by sealant, requires a new tyre:(

i have both, they weigh identical, and are both high end race wheels, but the tubbies are just faster, more responsive and more comfortable..

at least this is what they feel like.. whether they make a difference to race times.. dont think so.. and the $$ is probably NOT justifiable.
