Have done 96 at Giants Castle on the tar & 110 at Pelindaba, offroad, Afterwards you think what was I thinking, but hell the rush at the time is unbelievable!

The most I've done on a road bike was 92, I think speed on a mountain bike is much safer, road bikes are a bit twichy

Hahaha, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Once hopped the front line one of those older traps they used to string on the ground. Resulted in back wheel hitting first line followed straight after by front wheel hitting second... Generally registers you doing like 200 odd.

And you get a interesting picture too

Sparetyre, are you not going to unevening load your riding position like that....Confused

Sounds like you putting more weight over the front....even at 50kph ain't no way I am going to do that!!!

Not for the faint hearted.

Like I said, the smaller you seem from the front the less resistance. Now find an open stretch, grab the top bars and tuck your elbows in. Don't look at the speedo until the bottom.

helloise,

choose a relatively wind-free day (coming around the u-bend on sir lowry's pass is not fun in a south-easter)

cycle up sir lowry's pass (or get someone to take you up)

the top bit is horrible. just sta out of the trucks' way and try to stay alive.

after that u-turn, tuck in your elbows and knees and keep both hands on the handlebars, elbows slightly bend.

sit low.

watch your speedo go up, up, up untill you get scared. i got scared at just over 90.

has anyone gotten a speeeding fine yet??? will a camera click you if you go over 60?smiley36.gif

I had this question buring my @ss for a while. Out riding the other day and two meto cops were speed checking with a radar gun. So I had to stop and aks. (Just couldn't resist.) The answer made no sence to me logically but they said that the wheel base (Distance from front to back wheel) will not trigger a speed camera. They can measure your speed on the radar dis-ting though.

They said they are not likely to fine you because you don't have a registration number. Try to get your head around that one.

Ok. My top speed 94k's down Camaro.

What a rush. Only do that on Sundays (early before there are any cars about.) There is a premanent camera on the hill but at that speed, I'm not about to turn and smilefor the camera. No way Jose.

We go speeds regularly of 80-88km/h on the Tandem...

92km/h was the fastest I recall down butchers in the south of JHB' date=' on a tandem.

Cant think of a faster way down  a hill other than a Tandem.

[/quote']

Now there's a hill. Butchers. My best down there was 89 on my peejou papnat. Best down Lido only about 78.

Incidentally, the sppedimit on Butchers is 100, so happily no pics of strnage low flying craft occupied by two lycra clad loonies.LOL

Would be interested to see what you can get on Camaro on your tandem.

singletrack?? Big%20smile

Ive done 59km/h down that open singletrack at the end of the Knysna oyster festival race... try that this year..best race anyway....that thing is very rocky and with the bush and long grass all over the trail one cant see half the time! Its an even bigger rush than road, and feels unbelevably fast!

80.5km/h - Day 3 of Oudtshoorn 3 day MTB Marathon

80km/h - Elandsriver road down to Bulk River Dam

78km/   - Longmore Forest Jeeptrack

75km/h - Down to Diep Rivier in Karoo to Coast

55km/h - Down Bergplaas at night ... Trans Baviaans 2008 :))

55 to 60 on almost every ride...

Have fun and be safe!

PS... it took me very very long to reach the 80 mark... hit 78 a few times but could only ever get to 80 twice...

Road Bike: 91km/h down Dorreen Ave near Roodepoort

Tandem: Guessing over 100km/h, down Bruintjies Hoogte in Somerseat East. I know what 90km/h feels like, and that was MUCH faster.

MTB: Never cared to check, as long as its fast and I'm on top of the bike.

93km/h in the Golden Gate Reserve in the Drakensburg behind a tandem.

91km/h 2 years ago down Jan Smuts riding elite in the  94.7.

Got a speeding fine for "speeding and rectless driving" for racing a buddy down Sandton Drive.

How's this for some route description? I hit about 70 without even tucking but felt 100% safe the whole way. Really wanted to do it again, despite the fact that it was about 11hours into the day's riding....found somewhere along the freedom trail

When you reach the top of XXXXXkrans prepare yourself for one of the fastest downhill rides around. The gradient, the surface and the camber combine to draw you into a great descent. Top speed reported on the downhill is currently 78 km/hr. Minimise the braking and enjoy the wind in your face. Emerging at the bottom you might want to head back up and do it again without touching
the brakes.
