Cops and Your Licence Plate

Wobbles

Recommended Posts

Just a reminder to all cyclists transporting their bikes by car to ensure that your licence plate is not obscured by your bike. This is the one time of the year that the ever alert cops come out of the bushes and pounce on unsuspecting motorists with a hefty fine.

It is great knowing that we have such vigilant traffic cops who, although ignoring the taxis breaking 27 rules of the road in front of them, ensure that our roads are safe by fining cyclists who are causing a great danger to other road users by having their number platers obscured!!Dead.

stop wining. there's rules and laws. your number plate must be visible. if it is obscured it is your fault. don't compare it with other occurences. take it as a man and think of how happy you made the two cops that can go back to the station and write their only report of the day.

They can't do that ....... That would mean that they would ACTUALLY have to get out of the air conditioned offices and start to workShockedShockedShockedShockedShocked

Sorry to be the proverbial @$$ here...but its more than just your number plate thats the issue.

If your spoked wheels are in front of your tail lights they are allowed to issue a fine. No jokes. Its ridiculous, but true.

Even though they are still technically visible, they are still deemed to be obscuring your brake lights.

Sorry guys...had some experience with this one

Hmm, I think it would be hard to make that one stick. I would have contested it for sure.

The number plate issue is common everywhere, but very haphazardly enforced, I got a fine in Sabie once for the same thing, but after I wrote a letter is was squashed.

The law is there, but its a bit haphazardly enforced, depends on the officer at the time I think.

The problem is the cops know you aint gonna schlep all the way back to Hanover or Richmond to fight the issue in court, so we usually just pay up and get it out of our hair - that plays to their advantage.

.........but in general I agree, keep your number plate visible and theres nothing to concern yourself about.!

Just a heads up guys as we do tend to forget about this. I ferry my bikes around KZN without any cops stopping me. however, on the way to Argus last year I was stopped THREE times by over zealous cops who were visibly disappointed to see that I had affixed another number plate on my bike!!

They did not check anything else!!!!!!

Makes you think does it not?

You can get a number plate made for +- R30.00, cable tie it to you bike rack, most bike racks have place to put a numberplate.

As for lights, a nice DIY job wont be more than R150.00

If we keep our part clean the cops will focus on something else, and improve total road safety.

you really think so?

an underpaid lazy **** who took the career choice of becoming a traffic officer?

Do you think he decided : "How can i make SA a better place? I know - I'll become a hard working traffic officer"...

I can not agree more!!! A numberplate does not kill anyone...can they not scrap this silly law and concentrate on real potential killers on the road, I thought that cops are suppose to help ensure SAFETY on our roads....

hahaha... what a joke. the cops who were supposed to be making the roads safer during a PPA race decided not to bother stopping the cars at a big dual carriage way intersection. 1 x bicycle doing 50kph + 1 x car doing 60kph = broken bicycle
