you only use use the first and second clicks on the lever. The derailleur limiter will stop you from clicking onto the 3rd missing ring.

Theoretically you could use the same shifters,  adjust the screws on the FD so that it does not move past the last chainring, thereby resticting it to only one click up or down.

Or just adjust the cable and run it really short, so the derailleur cant move the chain lower than the middle ring. Thats how mine was set up Wink

is your 2 ring set up a dedicated 94mm 5 arm BCD or is it a 64mm, 4 arm BCD?

 

If its a 94mm 5 arm then the spacing between the rings is a little closer and a conventional trigger shifter will have some difficulty delivering reliable shifts. A gripshifter works best with this set up.

 

for a 3 ring 4 arm chainset, with the granny removed, a conventional trigger can be used.
