If I run a business and make enough money from it to buy a 4x4 Porsche' date=' so be it, and what does it have to do with anyone else?
[/quote']

Nothing. But if you and you so-called competitors get together to artificially set the price, then it's not negotiated on a buyer - seller basis, and I demand that the government get involved to protect my hard earned cash. Oh, and don't get all high and might. I am a confirmed social democrat, so your Capitalism rants wont work on me.

you sound like our comrades in power. socialism all the way, except when it affects me. Then opportunistic capitalism is suddenly the order of the day LOL

Ours is not a sport for the faint of heart or shallow of pocket.

Free market dictates that there are buyers and sellers' date=' eventually the two meet at a price acceptable to both and a transaction is concluded. You want to buy from CRC, CWC, Token, Comobike etc; feel free. You want to buy from an LBS or megastore, feel free as well. I you don't like the price being charged, buy elsewhere, no one is forcing you to buy from a particular vendor.

not everybody is comfortable to buy overseas and I am not going to buy something small from overseas. So where do you go, your LBS and will be forced to pay inflated prices.

Have seen a number of times where guys have banded together to place an overseas order, which may be a solution, alternatively the Token, planet X,CWC route is available

I really want to support my LBS. I want to buy my stuff from him so that he can run a prosperous business but not having to rip me off to do so. He achieves this by running a business that gives good service.

When his business practice is suddenly being dictated by someone else and he is man-handled into charging me inflated prices by someone else who runs his business on a different business model which is not sustainable, a line is crossed.

Whether the "cartel" colluded to achieve the above is not for me to say. The CC can do their job there. What is very distrurbing is that all the perceived talk was of pushing prices and increased margins. I as a consumer am extremely peeved off with this. I think my reaction and that of the cycling communitty would have been much better if they had tried to maybe reduce imports duties/taxes/bulk buying whatever to get prices down and increase volumes.

The way I would like to see this pan out......The CC find those involved not guilty of anti-competitive behaviour and more work is done by the distributors/retailers to bring prices down in line with online retailers so we can shop locally more affordably. WIN-WIN.

I love my computer, just when you pen a great post it errors and you must start again, attempt 2....

I don't think it is necesserally good news when the cc gets involved.  I am still waiting for my reduced bank charges.  Even on the bread price issue I read the following ( see http://www.fin24.com/articles/default/display_article.aspx?Channel=News_Business&ArticleId=2481820&IsColumnistStory=False )

"

The minister gave special attention to reviewing the Competition Act "so that the guilty can receive harsher sentences".

"Until now ordinary consumers have themselves paid the fines of the guilty companies in the form of higher food prices."

On Friday Oupa Bodibe from the Competition Commission said food prices had fallen less than expected after companies had been fined."

Seems to me that if the shops get fined there are 2 outcomes,

1. Shop cannot afford fine = shop goes out of business = fewer shops = less compotition = still high prices or less choice

or

2. Shop pays big fine = prices are inflated to pay fine = customers pay fine = government benefits or cc bives perfomance bonuses

I am just as excited about either of these outcomes as I am about paying extra tax.

how many of you have stopped shopping at pick n pay. They were directly blamed for pushing up food prices and influencing inflation last year. how many of you didnt ride the argus because PNP is a sponsor.

Bravo .. and it the cc ended up fining the race organisers because of some monopoly or someting the entry fees would just be higher next year to cover the fines.  The races are over subscribed anyway so it you or I boycott there are plenty of other suckers who are willing to pay, even if they gripe about it.  We may complain but herd instinct rules.
