For everyone else's interest, item+duty code used on the SAD500 I received with my CRC order:

full finger gloves (DH):4016.99.90/1

661 Core Saver (integrated spine and chest protection):6109.90.00/5

To show you how useless they are

4016.99.90 is other articles of rubber (15% duty)

6109.90 is t shirts of other textile materials (30% duty)

Its what your invoice says, bike parts you might get away with it. Helmut you probably not going to.

Capricorn do you have individual values and ill show you how it was calculated

i was looking to bring in a carbon frame formyself. What would that code be and VAT, import taxes etc?

I think the more expensive stuff should still be cheaper to bring in, it's the less expensive stuff that may be worthwhile at your LBS

hey..

I do have the individual values. They gave me a summary sheet of the costs, duties and corresponding codes. It was off that sheet that I managed to determine which code was used for each item, but indirectly so.

T-shirts??? lulz smiley36.gif Now how to get my monies back cos I still need some knee and shin guards ;)

Take this for example:

Conti Race King UST = R 675 per tyre @ LBS and R 505 (incl. postage and VAT) @ CRC.

Still way cheaper than @ LBS!

whilst the LBS has the right to a living, we have a right to shop where we can exercise the right to get more bang for our buck. Warrantee concerns included, the choice is ultimately the buyers. LBS loyalty is as useful as Political party loyalty.

So unless someone starts making damn high quality components in ZA, i go with the cheaper option.

i'm pretty much ok with the prices of stuff at my LBS but somehow every time i take something in for a minor repair i end up with a whopping bill. Makes me think 2x about going there.
