Cat Eye, is distributed by CoolHeat, i am pretty sure.

Currency has gone to hell, so an increase is expected, not sure if 100% is in line, but it is due to currency

go buy the thing off ebay

Angry Dude you're right......Had a look the same computer shipped free from the United states of Obama $39-95, thats new as well, so with tax, import duty if you going to be charged still comes out way cheaper.........Moral of the story as always buy online, I reckon when more people realize this and start buying online, sadly lots of bike shops, and probably distributors are going to simply close down, Business owners in the cycling industry beware, stop milking this cow, and become competive, like our foreign freinds who can do it cheaper, and probably deliver it faster...................mmmm wonder what excuse we will get???? Ah maybe like when everything else goes pear shaped.....................Simply blame it on the previous Regime, and lets not forget Apartheid!!!!!

This is a trend accross the board on cycling stuff in this country. Another example: Bought a top of the line HT little over a year ago for around 43K. That exact same bike (2009 version) is over 60K now. That does not add up for me. I dont really think it is a global trend. We are being snaaid in this country on cycling stuff. I dont think its the bike shops that does the snaaiing here, its the importers (agents) in my opinion. Lots of the stuff at CRC are even below the price that the local shops get it from the agents for. Jaco-fiets2009-03-15 01:01:19

I dont know exactly how much things have gone up, but the prices overseas are going up as well. CRC is showing an increase on several items I have been eyeing lately.

Read between the lines, or the very fine print. I dont have a copy of the "inaccurate or accurate minutes", but were they wanting a 50%  general increase or a 50% GP increase. Cos if its a 50% GP increase then it falls right inline with something costing R550 and now costing R1100. This works out to exactly 50% GP increase. Which yes- quite rightly so - works out to a 100% general increase, or to put it bluntly - "DOUBLE YOUR MONEY".

Be interesting to see who and what they blame in the next few months, if any further price increases. From what Im reading, about all the price fixing allegations, perhaps we should stop buying things we need right now, and start looking again in a few months when things get cheaper - LOLLOL. Doubt that will ever happen, but lets live and hope,

Currancy never devalues overnight, it usually takes a few months, there are also tools in place for importers to hedge against currancy fluctuations like "Buying Forward Cover" at the banks, so to say its ALL DUE TO THE CURRANCY DEVALUATION is just plain Bulls**t and insults our intellegence as educated consumers.

Generally Importers take advantage of these tools to AVERAGE out their imported costs to avoid massive price hikes all at once (if they dont they are fools and in the business of "playing the money market" and not the "sales of bicycle product market" ) - over the last 8 months the currancy has devalued by roughly 35 -40%, international manufacturers have also had price increases, but these are usually in line with international trends at around 10% so an increase of 100% is certainly not justified if everybody took their usual cut - somebody here is profiteering OR WAS PLAYING THE CURRANCY MARKET AND GOT CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN, either way, put a bit extra in and go buy a Garmin, a Polar or another product where the importers are keeping costs down (Garmin prices have increased but only in line with general conditions of market, which shows an importer using the tools available to limit increases) and put your cash with suppliers who care about YOU.!

Guys, maybe so. In December the prices of "security stuff" when up by 30% and some suppliers had a second increase which resulted in almost 50% increase! What do I, the retailer, tell you as the customer? I need a new car?!
