In the latest Buycycling they reviewed the new Trek Fuel EX 9.9........... it sells for R95 500!!!!!! how in the name of Hades do they justify such a price for a gatsaag??????

There are Bontrager XXX TLR disc rims for R21 500!!!!!!! again how in the name of Hades???????

It JUST takes the FUN out of CYCLING....... I seem to recall he was at THAT meeting as well....... wonder why it is only Fritz and Andrew that is under the magnifying glass?????????

Just think...... a few months ago this bike would have cost 50% less!!!!!!!! ....... still a blerrie lot of munny!!!!!!!!!

I would love to do a survey at the Epic and see what sort of bikes are being ridden by non sponsored riders.

There are a lot of guys throwing money at the problem. See how many S-Works carbon Epics are doing the rounds, for example.

I noticed a lot of locals with very expensive 2009 bikes yesterday......

I see even David george had been shopping, he's sporting some clavicula cranks, they only sell for around Eur 800 or something!

don't think they came stock on his raleigh!

I was wandering the same thing RE the makes of bikes to be found at the Epic and following the morning spent at the Prologue I found the following.

Spech Epics where all the rage. Just because it says Epic on the side does not mean you have to buy the bike for the Epic.

A large Scott Spark component and yes Mr Tom Ritchey from Team Rawanda was riding one .... it is a Scott so obviously people will buy them in masses.

The Giant Anthems where there, but not in the masses as one would expect.

More Scalpels were to be seen than expected and they all really looked great.

A pleasant surprise was the large number (Considering the "boutique" nature of the brand) of Yetis doing the rounds.

The rest was just a sprinkling of most other brands.

What's the big deal?

If there's someone out there who has that kind of money to spend on a bike, wtf has it got to do with you?

A tad jealous, perhaps? Ermm

Cant agree more.... what happens in other peoples houses should not concern you unless they are a blood relative

IF they want to spend more on a bicycle than on thier fiat uno then let them and then go and beat them on the trails when you get the opportunity!!

how do you justify paying over 20k for a any mass produced motorbike or over 50k for any mass produced car.

I dont think Just Fun Cycling are ripping anyone off. The ex 9.9 costs $7149 in the USA. Add 15% duty, 14% vat and shipping and you get your 95K. You should maybe point your criticism at Trek in the USA.

I've got no problem in people spending 100k on a bike. What puzzles me is how someone can justify spending that amount of money to save a kilo or 2, but then climb on it looking like you're 9 months pregnant. With triplets.

Who says that they're weight wheenies to begin with?  Maybe they bought that bike 'cos (a) they have the money and (b) they like the way it looks?

Agree with MsBehavin... this current notion that fat/overweight/call it what you will people shouldnt ride expensive bikes is puzzling..

Cool stuff is just cool stuff... If I can afford it, who gives a toss..

If my attitude is diff and ego driven BECAUSE I am on that expensive bike, diss me all you like, but not because I have the bike..

And after all that, 5 out of the 7 bikes in my garage were bought secondhand and do the job they were designed for perfectly well. And I weigh 95 kgs! :-)
