The R3000 question....

I have a set of AY-UP lights.

You cant go wrong there, it has 2 x 3 hour battery's, enough mounts to mount it on your helmet or bars, 320 Lumen per light set, so plenty of light. The best part is they weight in at 58 grams.

I see some guys are using the iBlaast II.

Ive have had my AY-UP set for 5 months now and you cant go wrong there.

Best part is they are available in SA.

Check out EasyGIS......

Thats the R3000 answer......

I looked at buying some AY-UPlights last year but my priorities changed.

EasyGIS are making approx R 1k per set (landed price at todays exchange rate), so its cheaper to buy the Enduro set.

Hey Sherlock, you're fast hey - but you're quite right! I 'm still researching - there must be cheaper options that  having to fork out 3 - 6 grand.

Like The_Thug said there are 3 kits available.

So if you are working to a budget, perhaps look at the Multisport Kit, with one light and 2 battery's.

You can always add to it. I got the MTN Kit, I usually lend my second light out to someone who is coming along for the ride. So one light is plenty and you really cant go wrong with there lights.

The size of them is increddible along with how much light they actually produce. 60 grams i think is is in total.

Multisport - 1 light unit with 2 x 3hr batteries
MTB - 2 light units with 2 x 3hr & 1 x 6hr batteries
Enduro - 2 Light units with 4 x 3hr & 2 x 6hr batteries

I purchased my AY-UP MTB Kit for just over R4400.

At todays exchange rate with shipping costs, and the vat / mistry Bank charges on the South African side that works out to be around 19%.

They arnt making that much on the MTB Kit. Probably the same to purchase over here.

Far easier to purchase in SA and quicker.

I've been reading up on lights and options and costs etc etc, finally got the Exposure Maxx 2 Joystick(240 lumen), for a helmet light, R1500, and then I' thinking of getting the Exposure Maxx Enduro for my handelbars (720 lumen), it is around R2600, 3 hours burn time on max, 10 hours on ride and 24 on the lowest setting, so for the price you get plenty of light, not extra batterie, everything in one complete light set.

For under R3000-00, I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the Blackburn System X8 lighting system?

I have a set and they are brilliant. 2 x Lumi-LED lights, one with a flood (wide) beam and one with a spotlight beam. I have four other mates and we all bought these lights together, not one of us have had any problems. We use them on the Tokai trails and regularly ride the mast during the week. The beauty with these lights is that you are free to use them on your handlebars or mounted to your helmet. The battery pack is Lithium-Ion, so no memory effect plus it is one of the most compact units on the market.

I regularly see other lights on the trail such as Sigma, Cateye etc and am amazed at how yellow the lights look while riders are approaching me. The Blackburns are a true white light, due to a 3w LUXEON Emitter.

The battery also powers the loads at a constant current which makes your battery life longer. Another nice feature is that the lights will flicker when you enter the last 20 minutes of battery power. This usually means, pedal like HELL!!!

GL - what does the Nightlightning iBlaast II retail for these days and is that with the 2.2Ah or 4.4Ah battery ?

We still have a few left that retails at the old price of R4800-00.

thats with a 4000mA.hr battery.

ALl up weight is less than 650gr.

we don't believe in small batteries since a night ride typically lasts 2hrs and then you have to take into account possible accidents, punctures etc which can add another hour.
