Jan Ullrich, who announced his retirement as a professional cyclist on
Monday, will be riding in the Cape Argus Pick ?n Pay Cycle Tour.

The
former Rapport Tour winner, Tour de France winner (1997) and 2000 Olympic gold
medallist is participating in the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour backing a
new Pick 'n Pay sponsorship initiative called Race4Challenge.

Ullrich is
to take part in the race in aid of two charities he strongly supports - the
Imibala Charity and the Starfish Foundation.

In an interview with
Worldsport, Ullrich said that he is pleased to have been selected to ride in the
Cycle Tour to raise funds for these Charities.

"I have been supporting
Imibala Charity for years. Their primary purpose is to fund disadvantaged
children through Primary School.

"The Starfish Foundation helps to make
a difference in the lives of children orphaned or made vulnerable through the
HIV/Aids pandemic in South Africa.

"'Both the charities are worthy
causes that I am honoured to be able to support and help make a
change."

Ullrich retired on Monday after a fall-out with the Spanish
authorities about the Operaci?n Puerto investigation. In an interview with
Cyclingnews.com Ullrich said that it was not an easy decision, ?but when the
inner voice speaks, you have to listen it?.

"I have thought a lot about
my life and I think that it is time for something new, time to take the step in
life after my active career. I have had so many successes in this wonderful
sport, now it is time to seek out new challenges."

At a press conference Monday morning in Hamburg, Germany, Ullrich said he was
not bitter and that he had nothing to blame himself for. While Ullrich refused
to directly address the issue of doping, Operaci?n Puerto or Dr. Fuentes, he did
send one clear message to those at the conference: "I have never cheated."

Describing the sport as his love and passion, Ullrich announced he will stay
involved in cycling as an advisor to Team Volksbank, a small Austrian
Professional Continental team where he will be involved in marketing and public
relations.

I will soften him up on race day, "Lamb" , you can take him on Killarney.

tell him I'm waiting on the blue route on my dukwiel, and I will pace him to the top of Suikerbossie , then he can start moving to the front and take the sprint.

phuck me!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked

He better not ride in A group, as if i dont have enough problems with all those chaps who get chucked out of the giro and all the top juniors in there already..... and my age catching up with me and basically my lack of ability to ride my bike fast enough for these juiced up lunatics.....

Where is my BMX??? Its Jack Daniels time ........ LOL

I'll just throw a pumpkin fritter on the road or a donut to lure Jan out of the A bunch if he starts with A group.

I'm launching a campaig called PAJIAG - stand for People Against Jan In A Group

Taking members....
