It's like that with ALL SA magazine. They do not have the budget to employ full time testers and journos to do a dedicated job. And the distributors are not interested in giving the editor' date=' who became one because he won an essay competition in st.5, a R50 000 to test ride for 3 weeks. So they have to place stuff from overseas mags which is not available here or not suitable for our conditions. [/quote']

All you say? Or just all local cycling mags?

Either way, your post is blatently wrong bud, some of the wildest speculation to date.

Seems as if you're making innuendos as to someone specific?

Well Holy Roller' date=' I see you're also a journo....so I now fully understand.... smiley32.gif [/quote']

Guys

You clearly are confused.

The thread was originally about Bicyciling April edition' date=' now I see Ride is being mentioned also as being bad, but earlier on in the thread it was good and much better?????!!!!!

Make up yr mindsAngry

As for the comments on the business related issues eg, budgets, staff compliments, etc. I suggest you get yr facts straight before making such misinformed comments. Not only is it in bad taste, but shows lack of understanding of the publishing business.

I agree with Holy - pm Tim and ask him what's up.

Talking about a lack of understanding - it's quite common for threads on the Hub to start off on one topic, and then branch out into another tangent... To suggest that "we are clearly confused" is a bit presumptious, wouldn't you say? Bicycling has been slated - but like the former, Ride is also a riding magazine - and so, a few of us raised some points about the Ride mag that we also do not appreciate... How is that confusing?

Regarding the bad taste of making "misinformed" comments about the publishing industry - might I (misinformedly) suggest that only someone invloved in or having a related interest in either "Ride"; the Publishing Industry; Touchline Media etc might find it to be in 'bad taste'....? Or is this simply me showing a further lack of understanding?....

Rodti - no need to explain my interest/lack thereof to you or anyone. It annoys me that we wanna bitch about everything.

Look at the threads that gets started, the bulk of it is someone (and I do not exclude myself) bitching about something. For the life of me , I cannot understand why people would wanna support an industry where everything is so bad, and negative as it is made out to be.

If someone dares to  say something positive, he/she would be slanted or attacked. Look at the post about the Vasbyt. The most posts on there is of a negative nature, someone says the race was good, and everyone attacks him. We all have different opinions, as we all have different experiences - eg the person who said the latest Bicycling was a nice read in his opinion - of races, equipment etc.. I for one enjoyed the Argus this year immensely - purely for the fact that it was so hard, no place for anyone who didn't train properly. For the bulk of the entrants, it was possibly the worst experience of their lives. Crucify me now for enjoying it? Doesn't make sense, and sort of negates everyon'e democratic right to an opinion.

In an earlier post on this thread, I suggested that the hubbers who are unhappy, email the ed Mike Finch with their comments and opinions. Maybe, just maybe he can use that to better the mag. That was my original point, and it still is. If we only bitch and moan, and do nothing, what does that bring about? For me the fact that I bitched and did nothing defies the purpose somewhat.

Fair enough comment that, Nuwbie.

I will, in all likelihood, be purchasing the next issue of Bicycling. Come to think of it - Splat gave me quite a good reason [the cover Big%20smile] to go back and purchase the current edition... And if things don't improve, I will be dropping a line to the new editor...

I'm with you on people who only complain, but don't actually do anything about it. I'm not one of those.

It really gets my back up - like people who moan about this great country, but then don't go and vote... But's that a whole new thread all on its own...

I cancelled my Ride mag about a year ago' date=' and have not missed it a bit, a mate showed me the current mag and it was laughable. Thinner than Paris Hilton and more insipid.

Not even worth the reduced discovery fee. I hear via the grapevine that Touchline Media is in the dwang, probably the fallout after the group overstated their circulation numbers to get increased advertising spend.
[/quote']

Foe - you mean you cancelled your "Bicycling" mag, surely? Ride, last time I checked, was not all that thin - and isn't published by Touchline?

Opps sorry. I did mean Bicycling mag, have edited my previous post. I still receive my Ride Mag
