Hello all,

Just thought I follow up on what I had said initially, in spite of this thread being long gone...

I did go out and buy the Bicycling, since the Compulsive Disorder in me couldn't forsake a complete collection - and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the section on the Argus was brilliant, and the quality of the photos alone made the purchase worthwhile...

Can't remember much more in the line of content - the online editor's account of meeting Matt Damon aside - but I was happy enough...

Hope things get back on track!

I have noticed the mag has slendered down. I read 'What Mountain Bike' and 'Pro Cycling' in the shops as they are AWESOME mags. Why can't we in SA produce mags of this quality? They do great reveiws and have up to date cycling news.

I agree!! The magazines from over seas are way better than the local magazines!!

I received the 'Triathlete' magazine in my goodie bag at last week's mtb event. Plenty of good articles, and a nice write up about some of the best competitors in triathlons. It's only R20. This mag may be a good substitute when your regular bike magazines suck.

what are you guys on about, if you guys don't like what's going on in bicycling magazine then tell them what you want, don't moan about it here. i think making the mag thinner was a brilliant move, it makes it easier to read and eliminates the pain of reading a bad filler article that was put in just to fill pages. if you've notice they've also changed editors recently so they may have changed the approach a bit. i wouldn't cancel my subscription just yet because the mag could get a whole lot more interesting in the coming months. and do yourself a favor, have a little fun, maybe then you'll enjoy the mag and cycling better.

Hey HR go and count the pages before you get something to read other than adverts and index. Quite a lot of it. Don't think I am going to renew my subs just yet.

Thin mag plus loads of ads.Dead oh and don't forget the 40 odd things to get you all excited to ride your bike and the usual 5 bikes under R5,000.Thumbs%20Down

There's always one of you lurking about eh. "If you don't like it then don't buy it...bla blaa". It's a forum DB, this IS the place to moan about it. Bicycle magazine is dodgy as ever. Even as bog paper, it's rubbish.

well my first post has already struck a nerve, you sound aggro hombre. seems like your life revolves around getting your latest cycling magazine. your taking it way too seriously man. I'm not saying that it was the best issue i have ever read, some of the content was rather lightweight. but the stuff on the argus was good and the moonshine bit at the end was funny as hell. the mag seems more fun and less macho testosterone. so as i said earlier, have a bit more fun...

I think the Runner world is also a load of rot - was a good mag until they changed the editor who is now the same editor of bicycling - so don't hold your breath about improvements

So much for this Mag (Rag?)

My reply to thier reminder to renew subs:

Unfortunately the standard and content of this publication, particularly the last few issues has dropped to a point where I no longer wish to renew this subscription.

Thier reply:

We have noted that you will not be renewing your subscription upon expiry with the October 2009 issue.

Should you require any further assistance, please feel free to email us or contact us on 0860 00 7827/SUBS.

Don't seem to care do they??

oh my goodnesss, I have to agree with all that is said, all the same all the time!! Bornman makes a exellent point, where are the independant people briging out an interresting publication with some proper JOURNALISM!! We cannot read the same toss over and over. The top 10 this the top tips that.. are we all idiots and because we buy this sh*t? we probably would continue to be treated like brainless robots if we continue to buy it.. I don't give a crap whether the guy from Talking Heads ride his bike to work and back in NY, I would like to see a journalist reporting on how ot is to ride to work in Cape Town or Jo-burg! some frikkin JOURNALISM!! in stead of tweaked articles from the US, and jinne can they at least try and get some peolple on the cover that look like they have been on a bike before! Angry

I won't buy Bicycling but got 6 monts free from some or other race I entered. I have not found anything that I would like to read so far, but the articles are aimed at a different reader:

Cyclists who dusrt their bikes off at the begining of January, and then start getting fit for the Argus, perhaps doing one or 2 races in that time, and then store the bike in the garage after the Argus till the next January, would find lots of stuff to read. These folks do not know the names of any pro riders except Lance Armstrong & perhaps Robert Hunter, or any of the local pro's names except Andrew M. They need 3 month training programs, ab excercises, diet plans and buyer's guides, advice on helmet hair, sleeveless tops etc.  Their bike reviews are also written with such a reader in mind.

At some point, they decided that is is where their money is made.

Hard core cyclists should go for Procycling or Cycle Sport. I heard there will be a local version of Cycle Sport?

PS I thought the Argus photos in one of the recent Bicyclings were nice.

[/quote']Man you hit the nail on its head! You should be a freelance contributor to the new mag, as soon as it comes here, let us know. I also get some local Triathlon mags, and again a bunch of small publications, but very good articles by local people that know the sport and some great contributions by local pros like Raynardt Tissink etc. Multi Sport Mag and Go Multi are some of the better ones, problem is always availabilty and so you have to subscribe to get them.
