Red Zone Posted April 15, 2009 Share The problem was that the riders were not using the sleeper bridge but cutting their own line through the river, if you knew more about Table Mountain National Park management and their ecological / conservation agenda, you would realise that they do not want riders riding through rivers. unless you are a freshwater ecologist you probably dont understand the impact. Iwan Kemp Posted April 15, 2009 Share The bottom line is that the Fairy Garden' date=' is a green route for beginners. The bridge is pretty easy, but makes the entire fairy garden ridable for beginners. Lets remember that before the Fairy Garden was built, there was no singltrack suitable for beginers! It is not intented to be technical, but rather an easy flowing section of trail. The bridge will stay because the trail builders understand where the Fairy Garden sits in the package of trails in Tokai. Secondly there is an ecological and erosion prevention funtion to the bridge, it keeps people who couldnt handle the sleeper bridge out of the river. [/quote'] So are they they gonna dumb down the other crossing in Fairy Garden as well. The one near the bottom? Build a bridge to stop erosion. YES. I am all for that. But get with the program people. It is called MOUNTAIN BIKING after all. You guys must be comnfusing mountain biking with road cross or something. And again, two years ago I couldn't cross jack, but I realised that if I wanted to do MTB'ing I would have to up my skill. I'm not talking gap jumps and 5' drops. BASIC SKILLS. While I'm on it: could you guys please stop dragging your freaking rear wheel through corners and stop locking your brakes 2m before a corner. You are stuffing up the trail. And while I'm on that: Please stick to the trail and don't litter. You are stuffing up the trail. And brush your teeth.

Put the word out. Inform us. If it's that bad why have been people been allowed to ride through the river all this time. Build a bridge before the trail opens up for traffic. Red Zone Posted April 15, 2009 Share Crow dont confuse dumbing down a trail and trail maintanence, sure sometimes maintainence requires that a trail is dumbed down. Likewise sometimes a section will be made more technical, plenty new technical sections have been introduced to Tokai in the 10 years I have been riding there. Unless Tokai is well maintained and erosion avoided TMNP will stop biking there, please try to understand that.

I understand the problem. I just don?t think it?s that big of an issue if you consider the rest of the problems the <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Table Mountain National Park management has. But hey ho, if it?s going to keep them happy?keep the bridge. Guess a little bit goes a long way?but for the rest of the dumbing down of the track...no excuses there. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />Dirt*girl2009-04-15 00:29:
Myra Posted April 15, 2009 Share blah blah etc etc OMG. How selfish can one be?The same could be said of those wanting the trails to be dumbed down. Really now....how much effort is it to climb off your bike and walk 3m 'over' and obstacle? My question is....is the effort saved from the lazy' date=' funriders worth the cost of the enjoyment the skilled riders have lost?Is it fair to take enjoyment from those riders who in all likelyhood visit the trails more often and ride for longer in order to make a trail rideable to a select few weekend warriors?[/quote'] I take offence at the insinuation that funriders are lazy! There is a bigger picture here, its not about dumbing down trails for funriders. See Obieone's post again. How about you guys get in touch with Amarider (Minty I think you already know Meurant) and discuss it with them? How about climbing off your bikes and building some ecologically friendly alternatives for you guys and some chicken runs for the dumb lazy funriders? Iwan Kemp Posted April 15, 2009 Share Sure FF, I appreciate it and do understand the difference. That's why I say: inform people. Will it kill them to send out an email or set-up a working group or post a notice on The Hub or or or. If BTS and the rest of us knew why it was done I'm sure no one would've complaint...and I wouldn't have driven 100k's to Tokai and back to go ride the trail last night!I'm not saying ask for permission or anything like that. Same happens when lank okes make their way to Majik on weekend only to disover that half the trail has been closed off for maintenance. Dirtopia / AMA has lots of emails in their database, drop everyone a mail saying the trail's gonna be closed or something like that. Anyway, I'm outta here. Happy riding everyone. Next time when you're out in Tokai drop your pace by half a k, look up at the mountains and say to yourself: "yip, this is where I live and ride. Life is beautiful"And it wouldn't kill you to smile and say hello.

And while I'm on that: Please stick to the trail and don't litter. You are stuffing up the trail. And brush your teeth. This pretty much sums this all up, especially the part about brushing teeth. That is REALLY important. Great post Crow. I expected lots of people to whip out the flame throwers when I posted this thread. The good thing is that people are talking about this, because to me (a paying customer in effect) to modify the trails as they see fit should be done by consensus. It's wrong to take all of the challenges out of the so called green routes. Challenges are what MTB is about. If it wasnt then I'd rather be at Virgin doing a spinning class looking at hot girls' asses. While, yes, nobody is saying that the trailbuilders are NOT doing a more than excellent job at Tokai, certain things shouldnt be changed just for the sake of it. Yes, perhaps the bridge is needed to curb erosion, but then at least make some sort of alternative to keep the more seasoned riders happy too. The bridge NEVER needed to be that wide. It's ridiculous. Furthermore, I REALLY detest the 'north shore' run on the level 2 track (the one with the tiny drop off). This has ruined a rather spectacular technical section, and replaced it with a boring gangplank. In fact, I was so nauseated by the sight of this new section that I was sick all night when I got home. Even my cats were worried and meowed a lot to see if I was ok. I wasnt. The sight of that wooden monstrosity keeps coming into my mind. It's affecting me a lot. Even to the point where I cant work and end up hanging out on evil forums like this place. Anyways, I guess some will like it, some wont. I feel that those people who carry on about people who dont go there and build trails shouldnt have a say and should shut up are typical. If 4000 people ride there a month it means CNC has R80k to play with each month. I contribute about R200 to this a month. I have a right to have a say. I'm a paying customer. oh well, sad to see the general vibe is the same as usual. Places like this are not about pioneering things anymore. Look at MTN in Jozi. Instead of spearheading hard riding and INSPIRING people to become good riders, they water down the tracks so that mum can take little Billy there and he wont get a scuff, meanwhile, Billy will only learn to be mediocre because the real riding is in the backcountry, guarded by the riders who care what they ride.bustthesickness2009-04-15 03:15:
