I am truly confused. What is the question?

Edit: Referring to Dirtbreath's last question.

Sorry, me English not so hot with all these chemicals. Embarrassed

How often does a component such as a Thomson seatpost fail? Are a handful of failures reason enough to increase the engineering requirements of these components? Sure, if you are the guy who sees his ass you have a problem but is it that big?

I don't know, I'd imagine not often, otherwise we'd see an American style recall.

I think you raise a valid point and underneath it all I agree with you. The guy with a seatpost colonoscopy would think otherwise, but that's just him.

Eish, that was cruel, but I did have my tongue in cheek there.

I made the point thought that the patent on that post claimed a fuse, which is an area that is supposed to fail safely before other things break. That didn't work.

I think a fuse would work as a sacrificial point that would fail during normal fatigue during the lifespan of the post. If their was a problem in the ear of the post and a fissure developed there there would be no way that the fuse would save the ear from failure.

I dont have that link open any more but there was the photo of the other sheared post. Is that how the fuse is designed to fail?

While we are on the topic of failures and colonoscopies, I am trying to rack my brain for any structural failures on parts that I have had and cant think of any. Any failures have been through impact or where tightening of bolts has taken place.

Nothing like this or that KCNC stem that was on here a while back. I seem to remember them taking that stem for testing. Wonder what transpired?

Off to check my seatpost.Big%20smile

Do you spend your entire day looking for discussions around hearsay or sensationalism ? Are you so skeptical about all types of manufacturers that you alw ays have to find some way to slander them' date=' or try and find fault or insinuate that they don't know what they are doing ? I will add my 1 c worth to this topic. cut cut cut cut cut

I don't need to a apolgise to you for anything, just for what it's worth.

On a different subject, when you crash and that crash causes metal fatigue, is this the manufacturers fault ?

Boris - you didn't have to tell Dirt Breff what I call him on a public forum (am I the only one that triple-checks the word public whenever I type it to make sure I haven't omitted the 'l'? Big%20smileEmbarrassed)

JB - I really struggle to follow your posts, waay too much to read (but then again I have the attention span of a 4 year old), maybe you should consider a short summary at the bottom of your comprehensive post (just for hubbers like me) Wink

Durt Breff - when are you and I gonna take that Thomson seatpost and fat @ss (hey, you said it) for a spin around the spruit again?

How thick are the rails on a Fizik Gobi?

How many saddles have 7mm rails? Is that the standard, or is 7 thicker than most?

Somebody said colonoscopy.Confused I might never ride again.

My bike is in pieces 'cos I'm checking each piece for fatigue. So far it's only the body thats come up with anything. Anyway, I cant get up at your crazy hours.

swissvan - I was referring to ALL of JB's posts (with respect sir), not just this one which I probably had no right opening since I'm not an engineer

Thats why JB said Discussion for Engineers....

Sorry not being bitchy just saying.

Just saying that sometimes even us non-engineers types like me and Nance are interested in what the 'geeks' are discussing as you may end up with a coloniscopic injection of some sort without warning ........ Wink
