I think yoju should get rid of those extremely heavy 1.8mm butted spokes and replace them with DT Swiss Revolution or SAPIM Laser spokes that are only 1.5mm thick.

Can one do that to an AM classic wheelset?

Oh yes! AM Classic even has an option like that from the factory on its Magnesium wheels, I think.

I've relieved many a weight weenie of his heavy cash in lieu of ligther spokes. It makes a massive difference, they claim.

Dude you can drop a couple of KG of your fat ass for less money.. . just dont eat for a week, you will save money on food as well.

Do the training first then worry on how light your bike is.

I have a HT with light components, except for the wheels and tires 11.4kg

more than enough for me and I can still kickass if a train a bit more.

Check out this website if you would like to know what light is.

I dont understand.... your bike is feeking light as far as mountain bikes go. How much lifgter do you want to make it?

You need to establish where the cost out weighs the benefit in performance/results

I never understood the whole light bikes thing anyway. Surely at some point you are compromising the strength of the components for the sake of a few grams.

Do you ride this bike offroad? I don't mean 'jeep track' and and graded farm roads. I am not trying to offend, I just don't get it. But I don't race competitively. Is there really such a big difference between a 12kg bike and a 9kg bike. (I ride a 16kg AM bike)

You could: Sandblast the paint off the frame, remove every second bolt on the rotors, saw off the seatpost and handlebar, titanium bolt kit, Maxxlite tires, import an aluminium casette... Even better. Get v-brakes. You might even get somebody to remove every third spoke on your wheels and drain the oil from your fork.Wacko

The biggest advantage from you being so fast is that you will be standing all the way. So you can discard the seatpost, saddle and that heavy seatclamp all together.

Or you can ride the bike as is. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It is already weight weenie as it is. Thumbs%20Up Goodbadugly2009-05-13 12:41:51

I guess that you have heard about the "law of diminishing returns"? It costs you x to get to 9.5kg's, then it costs you 2x to get to 9kgs, then 10x to get to 8.5kg etc etc.

Costs you zip to stop eating - as the matchman (i think) suggested....LOL
