Taking no sides here, but I will think twice to take my frames to CycleArt ... not because of Mampara's issue, but more the tone Lilian replies on behalf of CycleArt; I would not want to deal with Lilian ...... her replies are no customer service aligned!

FFS' date=' is this a pissie movie/tv show thread???

I for one want to see the CycleArt vs Unhappy customers thread.

Was planning on taking a frame to them but after what I've seen here.... not so sure.

Like all service suppliers you will never get 100% customer satisfaction.

Scotty I agree with u ... however the other day there was a issue with Whaspgel leaking, I have not seen Collin making remarks the way Lilian does; I hope, at least, she is the owner or share/stake holder in that business?

True, i've never dealt with cycleart and going by the comments they have many fans, but i also know mampara and rad and they would not make up stories, the pics dont help either. As 101SCC says it how problems are  dealt with.

"The paint not being dry was raised and you said it can take up to 3 month for it to dry, well it's been a year. " Mampara

Okay so here is the tech:

2K paint is called "2K" because it has two components - the paint, and the hardener (catalyst).

If you mix it in the wrong ratio it doesn't dry properly.

If you paint it too thick, it doesn't dry properly.

If you mix it right, and paint it right, it will dry inside 24 hours, even on a cold day.

If you have to wait three months for paint to dry, there is something wrong with the paint.

As for the pictures where the paint is peeling off... that just looks like poor preparation.

I think I will just paint my own frame...

This message is for Mampara and Rad006 - firstly' date=' the paint job in question was done exactly to your specs, you sent us drawings and we followed your instructions to the dot.....after the job was finished we sent you a picture - you were unhappy that a line went through your cable guide and you then requested us to go around the cable guide - which we did, the frame was then delivered to you.  A  week later you complained that the paint was still soft - can't remember why, but I was at your office and the paint looked fine to me but I asked that you wait a bit an see what happens...a year later you started to complain on the Hub about the soft paint - you never phoned us during the entire year (not once) then you complained again over the Hub telling people that the paint is peeling off the frame and I asked you to send me pictures which you did, one would need a magnifying glass to see where the paint is peeling off (under the BB), this could have happened at any time when you were out riding, a stone or anything could have caused this.  We are not prepared to give you a respray so please put this to bed now as it's starting to wear rather thin and we are sick and tired of your constant degrading remarks!  As for the poor service are you sure you are dialing the correct number?  We return all of our calls and e-mails, it might take a few days but we get to it eventually! I had nothing but good service from cycle art.  I will use them again and will recomend them to anybody.SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

I agree that complaining a year later is a bit late......  It is the responsabillity of the client to inspect his product and make sure he is happy with it....... at least with in a week!!!!

This bring to mind that topic about the crack in the frame that was spotted after 3 months????? Shocked

Peolpecheck your goods and make sure before you drive awayShocked

I was under the impression that Cycle Art was "The" place to take your bike for a paint job. Reading this and seeing the pictures of Mampara's paint job, I certainly will not be taking my bike there any time soon.

I had intended to take it to them to fix some scratches and stone chips but will look else where now. Any recommendations??

I agree with Klapperknop that the tone in Lilians response is not good.

Nikki I rate your safest best is either Powdercoat one colour or anodise it. Im yet to see a good painter....maybe those guys that do custom paint on motorbikes are better.

I for one wont support CycleArt or somebody else that I wont mention

couldnt agree with you more. Ive just had my fork legs sprayed thanks to my friend & ive learnt a thing or two about spraying. There are ratios obviously of mixing your catalyst & paint & quite correct you are. Mix it wrong & it turns out disasterous. We didnt mix it properly & we werent far out let me tell you & it was still sticky 48hrs later.

This meant re-prepping the legs & 2nd time lucky.

*too much catalyst & it starts decaying the color ( turning almost a yellowish color within the paint ) & will peel off eventually

*too much paint & the stickyness will stay & eventually will lead to paint chipping off due to it not drying ( hardning ) correctly

I have a frame that I wanted dolled up to take the "el rapido" theme further. A special bike that I want to use for a special project. I have always been very impressed with comments and pictures by satisfied clients on the Hub. Who remember Cruxpearl and his plethora of Cannondales he had painted. A true fan. I almost took the frame to CycleArt when I fetched my 4x4 trailer in Vanderbijl Park during my recent visit to South Africa. After the unsympathetic public reply by a representative of CycleArt I will definitely NOT make use of them. This is the poorest display of client relations I have seen in a long time and I wonder if the person realises how much damage she has done to their well respected concern.

I will rather take may bike to Chrisjan the panelbeater again. At least the paint job he did on el rapido is holding up and he did the job for free!!!!!!

Despite the negative remarks on this thread I would still have no hesitation in taking a bike to CycleArt. I have also spoken to Lillian on the phone on a previous occasion and found her to be very pleasant and helpful. I also had an excellent response from them when I asked for a quote towards the end of last year. Quick and efficient response and in my view a reasonable quote. I would still recommend them.

Who can be recommended for powdercoating and anodising?
Posted

BigGuy I havent looked into it to much but there are quite a few places. Just dont pay more than R300 for a powdercoated frame and that includes a sandblast. Anodising I have no clue but Ill be looking soon enough....
