The international racing circuit issue - there's no problem there.

I'm still waiting for facts about a SA rider who is being sponsored by a company in the host country riding in their leagues. Just one will do, and I'll say thats fair.

Really can't be arsed as the paucity of your arguments doesnt make it worth it.

BUT if you read the thread, people have put Barloworld riders forward as an e.g. of this.

And I think you'll find Yolande du Toit won the 94.7 a couple of yrs back pretty damn convincingly havin' ridden in Europe for a few months prior, sponsored by Konica Minolta that well-known non-South African company.

Jenni is an absolute professional in how she conducts herself both in races and with her sponsors. Believe me that her sponsors are more than happy to support her and wouldn't have it otherwise. The bulk of our local athletes would do well to learn from her example - it might help them attract sponsors.

Barloworld is not an eg. They're an international team racing international events.

I agree that racing abroad is good to improve standards etc, or having JS and Hannachi race here - the thing is who sponsored Yolande?

Looks like I won this debate. No facts from anybody - just rants and raves.

I'm sure you're right Fakes, now back to your playpen.

Konica Minolta sponsored Yolande.

Fakes, have you met Jack Schidt? That's what you have won. Buy something else if you feel that strongly.

I won't.

As far as I know, Peter-Lee Jefferies, a South African, races on a local Belgian team...

Still don't see why this has any bearing on why a SA company can't sponsor an international rider to race in SA.

"Local leagues are for locals"

How quaint that people like this still exist' date=' but what xenophobic nonsense.

There's no nationality or residency requirement to enter an event here, why should there be?

It doesnt matter if the swedish lady adds anything or not, but clearly she does in a sport where there are only 3 teams. So the diversity is welcome.

You should see how the Belgians bitch about the foreign amateurs riding in their leagues!  Here where I ride we have Dutch, Belgian and German guys riding week in, week out in the same league making for very, very hartd riding.  Lots of times the guys even come from Poland or Italy to 'steal' the few cents on offer, but you know what?  It makes for VERY hard racing.  Much better than the xenophobic 'I'm the best in this little pond' cruises...

Ahh but you know our big mistake with this one was to jump in too hard too quick.  Look' date=' the thing has burnt out cuz Darkhorse didnt show again after the 1st post, & it's only 10 o' clock, what are we gonna do now?

It's the same as when John Terry gets substituted in a game, it's no fun as there's no one left to hate.

Next time, one of us has to be sympathetic and draw things out more slowly so that the intended victim sticks around a bit longer.

Deal?

Just for the record, Dan is Namibian.  Big%20smile

Speaking of which, dark horse, what about the Namibian mountainbikers like Mannie Heymanns, Marc Bassingthwaite, Heletje van Staden who have also done well in SA and have SA sponsors?  Should their SA sponsors lose the benefit of these riders because they come from over the river?  Or does the discrimination only extend to Europeans?

In a similar vein then' date=' the whole "buy" South African debate is rubbish. Proudly South African?

I would love love to ride with/against overseas riders in our local races - but if you asked me whether I would pay to bring a rider here and race against him - I'd say no.

If he's here on his own accord, bringing his Euro's with him, that's great. Good for our economy and everything else.

Our local leagues are for locals- besides JS I think we have a Moroccan also racing.

The TdFrance is an international sporting event, with international teams. I don't think there is a single team of one nationality. Even the french company Cofidis have two non-french riders (probably playing Domestiques).

Waiting for some facts about a SA rider sponsored by a company of the host country competing in the "local" leagues abroad.

THANK YOU!!!

What happened to proudly South African... what helping SA ladies out... investing in South African riders futures... investing in South African cycling...

How is sponsoring a foreigner helping SA Cycling... I would see the benefits if JS was riding together in a team with young riders teaching them the ropes...

What JS does is not racing she leaches of the SA teams and then just finishes them off at the end... GREAT!! WHOO HOO...

I would love to be known as a WIEL SITTER... NOT!!!

evidently you don't read the posts on your own thread. that's what all the girls do apparently. i could also tell you tale of a privateer girl who could most probably kick some local pro girl's asses at some recent races being treated like dogdoo by the local pro teams, but you head is most probably so far up yours, you wouldn't hear it.

you want something handed to you because you're a local racer? well, boo-frigging-hoo. what about the rest of us? don't we all deserve gainful, subsidised employment because we've hung around in good ole rsa? get a life! you wanta make it? go out and make it. the best performing saffas have something you don't. will.

You mean the local teams drag her along to the finish line and can't shake her?  ....and then they want SPONSORSHIP???  You make me laugh!

South African ladies are well sponsored.  They don't need to steal the one(!) foreign competitors lunch money
