Bos, it don't have to be expensive, I've bought most of my parts for the Stumpy 2nd hand off the Hub and build it up to 9kg but it was a bit to light so fattened it up to 9.5kg - that's a nice solid weight for me. The SC SL I'm also building up again only using 2nd hand parts found on the hub - will have it at 10.7kg again - only problem is finding another fork that's sub 1.4kg with V-Brake bosses with 100mm travel - that's going to be the expensive part.

You have to ride it to believe it but rotational weight makes a BIG difference. HUGE. Crank not so much, carbon bits even less. Wheelset

XTR wheel set/crank/pedals/brakes

S-Ram XO cassette, shifters, hollow point chain

Richie carbon handlebars/Stem

Spesialized seatpost/SL seat

Where do I cut 2kg???

Fill your tyres with helium. It will make your bike lighter and when you get a puncture it will make a funny sound like a chipmunk and you can have a giggle about it.

Am I correct in saying that your built up wheels weight the same as Shimano XTR wheelset?

XTR Wheelset weighs in around 1600gr. In terms of performance, rotational weight makes a huge huge difference and thats where you wanna shave the weight

Foam Grips

Get Ti 4 Crankbrother Eggbeaters

Specialized seatpost change to KCNC

Saddle? Selle Italia SLR 125g

Use Tubeless Ready tyres instead of Tubeless.

I use XTR V-Brakes to cut another 400g over Disc breaks

Get Rid of the xtr wheels and the crossmark tyres. use non tubless tyres. change the seatpost.Use foam grips. That'll lose around 1kg
