And no I dont mean anything dodgy by "Do I grease my seatpost"

What I want to know is there was a thread a short while ago about alu seatposts getting stuck in carbon frames and needing to be sliced and then bent out.

I have an alu frame with a carbon seatpost, I can imagine the same thing would happen considering its the same materials. Would a light greasing of the seatpost help to stop it from binding?

The general consensus is that grease damages the carbon and that you should use carbon specific paste instead.

There is a short article in either Ride or Bicycling where they interviewed some carbon guru and he rekoned that it is nonsense and grease does not  damage carbon.

NO grease will attack a carbon seatpost or any other carbon parts.

All greases will emulsify when they come in contact with water and the mix is "massaged" as is what happens when you ride and the seatpost flexes.

Emulsion is bad for corrosive substances such as aluminium tubes. It allows water to stay in contact for long periods of time.

Carbon grease is not grease, but a friction past - grease with grit in.

Carbon grease will prevent slippage but wont prevent emulsification.

The best strategy is to either not grease at all or, if that is not possible (slippage), then to grease with carbon paste and regularly remove the post, clean and re-grease. Regularly is once every two months or so.

I like the idea of not greasing at all. I dont often move my seatpost so unless im cleaning it regularly I think im going to have problems.

I have not actually done the build yet so I dont know if the seatpost is going to try to slip or not. Thanks for the info guys.
