Have just completed the Stellenbosch MTB race today with my 12 Year old(15km) and I must say I am most disappointed with the behaviour of older cyclists.

I regard myself as an experienced cyclist, having ridden bikes for the past 25 years and when you see older cyclists pushing and shoving little ones off their bikes to get past and complete the 30km,YES 30KM,I get rather upset. If this is the example that we are setting the youngsters in general and especially the youngsters coming into cycling, no wonder you see teenagers doing the same!!

People in general need to behave and get some manners, otherwise we are bound to raise the next generation being a bunch of thugs!

This sort of uncalled for behavior always fascinates meAngry There is absolutely no reason for it.

Hope your son put the bad experience behind him and enjoyed the event.

As soon as you hit Sea Point up to Chappies no one says hello or jack like that when you wave.

Go back to Tableview and everyone waves and says hello.

I guess they just better that side of the world...

My wife also participated in the 15km, first mtb race for her as well, she also mentioned how rude the people were.  Quite scary.  I did the 30k with friends of mine, didn't want to do the muddy thing, starter in the last group of D, even there, with nothing to win, the people were so hung up, really, if you are past halway, still at the back with the D bunch and the want to push and shove, nee wat, ai ai , really sad.

Raced the 60km at the front of the field. Good manners all round, even on the slippery single track the less technically adept riders pulled over at the request of "track" Hit the 40km riders on Pappegaai berg and no such luck. I think its just experience on the bike and as said simple manners and knowing the rules of mtb races. No exuse for pushing past less experienced riders even if they refuse to get out of the way. Sometimes its simply lack of experience and they are too nervous to move. No problem ride around them when its safe to do so!

WHAT YOU WANT TO YELL AT THEM FOR? coming thru on your left / right said in a moderate tone will get the desired move. you might just come across one of my friends who has the attitude " i paid my money, you wait"  if you yell at him. and he is a big oke too.
