CWC and iCycling have been looking at the market and also looking for alternative suppliers. Our local suppliers are or have pushed prices way to high and you lbs also suffers in the end resulting in closing shop....I admire what Chris has done and i will always suport him even though I have a waiting period of three to four days. Sometimes I wish he opened up in JHB.

Thumbs up for Peter. Ordering some VBrakes from him cheaper than CRC. To top it up he can organise me a set of the XT VBrakes where CRC only stock the front.

Guys,

We cannot deny any shop from making a profit. That being said, I do have a serious problem with any shop making a killing off of me.

Tarmac, Popeye's question is very valid. Do you really want the pain of dealing with people's complaints? To go head-to-head with any established shop is admirable, but foolish. You will need to carry the stock that they do to compete.

I say shop where you want. If your LBS is a nice guy, spend the extra R10k (he will have to be a helluva nice guy). What about this scenario - buy from CWC (support the man trying to support us) and then give your LBS a cheque for R10k. Both parties win.....Big%20smile

I don't think it's the shops that does all the killing, but the distributors aswell. The whole infrastructure and support fact will come up again and that is why they charge more. Remember Coolheat/CCS must back every Shimano/Sram equipped bike that enters the country (legally). I'm only mentioning Coolheat/CCS because you do not get any OEM Campag on bikes. They don't get a cent from those sales but still have to offer back-up service.

Saying what I said in my previous post, I still don't think they need to make R10 000 on every DA groupset just to offer support. Shimano at the end are the ones covering the warrantee.

Point taken Para. I cast the aspersion on the LBS when it was not necessarily the case.

Every time there is a local disty in any industry, the cost goes up to us the end user of the product. If there are tangible benefits to their increased cost, then it can be justified. From what I am reading in this thread, CWC have the same benefits at lower cost. Seems to be a no-brainer. Even I can work that one out.

Tarmac... If I buy a Record groupset from you' date=' What support will I get from you a month later on that groupset?

Can I bring it in, you replace the broken part, to enable me to ride the next day?

Or is the sale "?s is"[/quote']

Can you do the same for CRC, Wiggle, Ebay?

No.

You make a good point, you need to draw a line between service and price.

The law of business prevents paying a little and receiving a lot. You cant expect to pay half the price and then still expect a warranty and small parts backup.

Now this is where it gets tricky. Say everybody bought cheap parts online or elsewhere, it would quickly erode the need for a main distributor and the market would lose the backup and warranty service, but are they required if you can buy new items for a little more than spares cost? Plus you saved so much money in the first place, you could buy almost an entire new groupset. But because of the sudden influx of cheap groupsets, there will be more people riding on their equipment and therefore more people to need the spares. So they still sell parts...

Distributors have their place in the market, I am not trying to put them out of business, they will all still I believe have their place and will still sell the parts that people need the next day, and cant be without. The OEM market will still be there too. Competition is not a bad thing. the parts still come out of the same factory and the factory makes the same prices, so where is the Inflation sitting?

You as a consumer, and me for that matter, can't have the cake and eat it too.

But then you get distributors that don't even stock or is out of stock of basic stuff. I have to wait for a 140mm disc brake mount as Coolheat does not have any. A simple thing as that and it is a XTR (only XTR have 140mm discs) part.

How many of you have actually had warranty issues with a groupset?

Just thinking, there is so much emphasis on it but... mine was like. fit. ride. no worries.

We are talking top end stuff here for the most part...

That doesnt help when the distributer doesnt have it. Let alone the lbs.

That is where CRC often fills the gaps. Thier stock and range is amazing.
