Guys,

We cannot deny any shop from making a profit. That being said, I do have a serious problem with any shop making a killing off of me.

Tarmac, Popeye's question is very valid. Do you really want the pain of dealing with people's complaints? To go head-to-head with any established shop is admirable, but foolish. You will need to carry the stock that they do to compete.

I say shop where you want. If your LBS is a nice guy, spend the extra R10k (he will have to be a helluva nice guy). What about this scenario - buy from CWC (support the man trying to support us) and then give your LBS a cheque for R10k. Both parties win.....Big%20smile

I don't think it's the shops that does all the killing, but the distributors aswell. The whole infrastructure and support fact will come up again and that is why they charge more. Remember Coolheat/CCS must back every Shimano/Sram equipped bike that enters the country (legally). I'm only mentioning Coolheat/CCS because you do not get any OEM Campag on bikes. They don't get a cent from those sales but still have to offer back-up service.

Saying what I said in my previous post, I still don't think they need to make R10 000 on every DA groupset just to offer support. Shimano at the end are the ones covering the warrantee.

Point taken Para. I cast the aspersion on the LBS when it was not necessarily the case.

Every time there is a local disty in any industry, the cost goes up to us the end user of the product. If there are tangible benefits to their increased cost, then it can be justified. From what I am reading in this thread, CWC have the same benefits at lower cost. Seems to be a no-brainer. Even I can work that one out.

But then you get distributors that don't even stock or is out of stock of basic stuff. I have to wait for a 140mm disc brake mount as Coolheat does not have any. A simple thing as that and it is a XTR (only XTR have 140mm discs) part.

That doesnt help when the distributer doesnt have it. Let alone the lbs.

That is where CRC often fills the gaps. Thier stock and range is amazing.

Okay, how is this for service:

I can get you guys a DuraAce7900 groupset for R26000.

For that price I will include a second complete DuraAce 7900 groupset as backup in leu of "service and backup"

Alternatively, I can organize the groupset without too much backup for R13000.

How many of you have actually had warranty issues with a groupset?

Only Spinnekop. He tried 3 times installing Shimano and gave up and went to Campag. smiley36.gif

Guys,If I spend R15000 on a bicycle part, I want to know that I can take it back to my seller.

Even a R2Mil Ferrari, can be taken back to the Gerage if something is not right.

It got nothing to do with "top end" parts

So, only dof people will buy new stuff on the "second hand basis of -- as is--"

Money is not growing on trees, and everyone want to know that his investment is well looked after.

So gor me, The Chris Willemse option makes more sense.

Tarmac...I thinking about what can go wrong.

Say for instance you buy a XTR Groupset, we all now that you get "top pull" or down pull or both types of front derailers (all completely different products

So , based on what bike frame you got, these things differ and can fit or dont fit, what about the tube diameters of these frames.

So if you buy a groupset and that part dont fit, than you are in trouble.

Yes, its good that there is someone that offer cheaper prices, but on High end, expensive stuff, its a risk.

If its smaller, cheaper items, yes, take the risk, but not on big price items.

If you pay so little for it and something breaks then just buy a replacement part. its pretty simple.

If I were to buy a 7900 group for R13k and my RD snapped in half and voimited oil then I would simply take some of the R13k i had saved and go into the LBS to buy a new one and still be smiling.

does cwc's group sets still get delivered wrapped up in newspaper? i bought a campy chorus groupset from the uk which cost R2k less than what cwc were selling it for on their internet shop. mine came in the campy packaging etc and my lbs fitted it for me and charged R200. my only concern was whether the bb was italian or english thread. even with their guaranteed aftersales service i wouldn't buy from cwc unless the items were in original wrapping.

btw - i think chris w runs a top class shop and is a credit to the sport.

I'm thinking of starting a thread called - "Why the @$@&& has this not happened before I bought my DA7900 somewhere else" Angry

does it matter? The other day there was a guy on here that was very disappointed because his Sram derailleur from CRC was not in it's box. You're going to toss the wrapping anyway or do you also want it as a "trophy"?
