Cippo Posted April 8, 2018 Share I couldn't help buying this bike, mainly just for the interesting gear shifters. No decals on the bike so I don't know what make it is. Must be Japanese as research shows that these Symmetric shifters mounted to a single braze-on boss similar to a water bottle mount, located on the top tube were used on Japanese bikes from 1982-83 (Bridgestone, Miyata, Shogun, Panasonic, Univega, etc). When this SunTour rear derailleur lever was moved, a cam on the inside of the shifter body also adjusted the trim on the front derailleur. I have not tested it so will have to see once restored. The bike needs some TLC.Suntour2.jpgSuntour.jpgAre those all yours? I see a Saronni in there? Edited April 8, 2018 by Cippo

Eppie Posted April 19, 2018 Share I was trying hard not to buy any more bikes this year but this old Cinelli was shouting out loud. The plan is to keep it in its weathered condition. Accept for the wheels and pedals everything seem to be original. It almost looks like the bike was wrapped in a foil like metal and then painted. The Magistroni crankset is really cool. Eppie Posted April 19, 2018 Share Any idea of its age?Nils thinks 1950's. I sent some pictures to someone in the US who keeps records of the serial numbers and studied the history of the Cinelli bikes. If I hear back from him will let you know. Loose cog Posted April 19, 2018 Share Eppie, I also say it's 50's. There is a Cinelli register and you can check your serial number to get fairly accurate date. Unfortunately the keeper of the registry doesn't register any more bikes (I have tried to register two). The nickel and chrome plating is shot so I wouldn't leave the frame in that condition. That's too much patina. Also it will just deteriorate further. Nice find. They do weigh a tonne. Dirkitech and DJR

HeyYou Posted April 20, 2018 Share Very nice find though. Measure the Head Badge and check the Head Tube lugs for a good date estimate. I can send you the whole Cinelli timeline if you want it. If the Magistroni's are original, then my guess would be post 1963. Edited April 20, 2018 by HeyYou DJR
olffie1 Posted April 20, 2018 Share Hi Eppie, your serial number is dated between 1958 and 1961! Looking at the cranks it would probably dip into late 50’s. Eppie and DJR
